Sonic Adventure DX (Legacy)

[Open Assets] Sonic Adventure DX (Legacy) v3.1.1b/v1.0.1.1a + v4 Lite

This content may be freely modified and/or maintained by anyone.
ok i guess development will continue, though i think perfect chaos may not be in v4, because jesus.b has been busy with his other projects. i felt like the remaining work may be too much for me to handle at this point, as i want to focus on original mods. not someone's work ported or recreated. MY own mods that i made up and produced.

now, i feel like i may actually be able to finish this for all and leave it alone, until maybe 2.3 releases or some bugs come up and i fix them, or until perfect chaos actually gets finished, and then i can include him and his map in a future update.

so far, i worked on final egg a bit, continuing from where river left off. i also optimized it more. i also enlarged the emerald coast water, as its textures looked too small, due to the new ones being way smaller than the original ones

so i guess sadx v4 this year, maybe? we'll see

i may also put out a trailer. either i will make it or i'll ask someone else to do it

i may also rename this mod to Sonic Adventure DX (Legacy) to make room for a future proper SA1 recreation, made by whoever would be up for the job. it will not be me, for sure

i was gonna say "you can do it, Klasky!" since you said you lost motivation in your previous post, but i'm still gonna say it since you need all the support you can get. just don't take this like an insult, because I do sincerely believe in you and your skills.

thank you man

also, since someone posted after my post, i can finally bring attention to uh some other stuff i was doing with this project and not fall victim to post-merging. i brought back the twinkle park fog from an indev build. it was in a broken state, though, so i fixed it up

also i renamed the mod to SADX (Legacy) to make room for a future recreation of SA1 by someone else, and also signal that this is a port of an old level pack. as you can see, i've talked about this just yesterday, though i did not mention the latter reason here

I personally do not think that hypotheticals regarding future packs that may or may not come are a good reason to stop a project (unless of course a break is in fact needed due to burnout or due to requiring time to learn the tools better).

Players have been making recreations of their favorite Sonic levels in SRB2 since the game's early days and last I checked they were not stopped by the idea that better packs will come as the engine is developed farther (like getting slopes).

If desired, the pack can be wrapped up and given a final release before starting something else. It is understandable that one might not want to stick with a single project forever especially if progress feels slow, but it is in a good enough state in my opinion to at least be worth giving a sendoff.

Though as hinted, sometimes it is really just a break you need, refresh yourself and then decide whether to come back to it. During that time, you can focus on just creating assets for later use and figuring out a system and standards to follow in both UZB and in SLADE to better keep track of what is going on and reducing the risk of errors.

agreed. i'm glad i came back to v4, after all and that i can finish this port off for once

klasky updated Sonic Adventure DX (Legacy) with a new update entry:

V4 Cancellation + Release of V4 Lite

hi everyone. i have made the decision a few days ago to... cancel version 4 of the sonic adventure dx port. the reason for this is because i lost interest and motivation in working on it since june 2025 (albeit i still made some small amount of work on it occasionally until feb 2026). i want to make other kind of srb2 mods and not enhance others' old works. i've been working on some other srb2 mods that are smaller in scope but actually have my interest and motivation in developing...

While it's undeniably disappointing that the highly anticipated Sonic Adventure DX Legacy v4 project has been canceled, the silver lining is that the community still has the opportunity to experience and enjoy the beta version of v4, allowing us to get a taste of what could have been.
well... you see that big old open assets label? we can continue it!

its a kind of let down you abandon this addon but its relatable cuz not everyone gets the inspiration of continue what they dont feel comfy with. As a consolation i can make sure some of the stuffs implemented in v4Lite will be corrected cuz there are plenty of oversights and errors that i cannot ignore.

ATTENTION!
if you're gonna use Adventure Sonic with the pepperminted SA1 model, make sure you fix the model animations in a text editor. here's the key for animations:

old animation name (the ones the model has by default)new animation name (to replace the old one)
JBALTAL0
BBALTAL1
ADVJTAL2
DEADTAL5
GLIDTAL3
HTRCTAL4
edit: ADVJ isn't in the Pepperminted model, but it IS in the Jeck Jims model.

Post automatically merged:

creepy...
I changed it in notepad, But now loading the model crashes the game.
