Vanilla: Sometimes you'll see me using Sonic, thats just for tag/match proposes. But regardless of that, Tails my favorite character. Also just to clarify, this is coming from a classic fan so "Modern Tails" doesn't exist

Chocolate (modded): B a n d a g e s/Boom Sonic

If we're talking about just SRB2 (and not Sonic in general....) then I'll probably have to say Advance Sonic! I downloaded him a while back and he quickly became one of my favorites.

Now, if we're talking Sonic series in general, I'd have to say Knuckles or Blaze the Cat!

My favourite Sonic character has got to be Silver The Hedgehog;
We don't know much about him other than the fact that he can use telekinesis, he's from a very bad future, and that he's friends with (non-canon) Blaze. (No, I haven't read the comics, nor do I wish to spend several hundred hours of my life doing so. :P )

Tails, Shadow and Sonic. Tails' arc in SA1 was very touching when I was a kid and he kept being an awesome character overall (ignore Forces). Shadow's arc in SA2, Heroes and 06 is the best in all the franchise, he grows so much in each game, I personally like his friendship with Rouge and Omega. I find Sonic to be the most interesting character in the franchise, he is the example of a character that doesn't grow. He's kinda the definition of goodness inside his universe, he never changes because he doesn't have to, instead he makes others grow through his actions. Tails, Knuckles, Tikal, Chaos and Shadow are some examples. I love him because of that, he is an icon that people look up to. He just wants to do his own thing but he never hurts other people. In a sense he is the opposite of Eggman, who uses his freedom to conquer, while Sonic uses his to help.

Honestly it's kinda hard to pick a favorite character because up to Sonic Heroes every main character was likeable and had something interesting to offer, Knuckles, Rouge, Gamma and Amy for instance. But these 3 are the ones I love the most.

If we exclude sonic from this. Its definitely Espio, Knuckles, and Mighty. For Girls its Blaze and Shade (unfortunate that we didn't get to see more of her)

It really does depend on case basis, so this one might need elaboration.

Game Universe: Knuckles

Before he was turned into the dumb-strong archetype, this guy was the GOAT. He has a badass theme song and one of the most conventional ways of dealing with things: fists. Not only that, he has a responsible air about him too, which is one of the traits I tend to gravitate towards heavily. The day he uppercut Sonic so hard he fell out of the super state & then gave that glorious wide grin was a memorable one, while for him, it probably was Tuesday.

Comic Universe: Scourge

I tend to like villains, so how about combining Sonic's wittiness & self-confidence with Hazama's cruelty & sharp tongue, give the guy a cool jacket & then give him the center stage? You get the self-proclaimed king, not to mention a villain way too good to be stuck in a comic. In particular, it was the comic dub I saw on YT that absolutely sold me on this character.

What little I saw was absolutely glorious when it comes to villains not to mention rival characters. While I feel Metal Sonic, Knuckles & Shadow as rivals worked for the stories and the games they appeared in, Scourge himself to me represents the perfect foil to Sonic himself.

Honorable Mention: Shadow

He's the Sonic franchise's representative of the Broken Home, Broken Soul-archetype of characters, and the way it was handled in Shadow's case throughout his initial character arc (SA2, Heroes, '06) was very good for the franchise it was made for. However, what ultimately brings this guy down for me is not only the lack of consistency when it comes to his characterization throughout the franchise, but how as a result of having to tone down the dark themes usually associated with the archetype in order to fit the Sonic franchise, his story does not reach its full potential.
