The OpenGL renderer already supports palette rendering in 2.2.14+, and that had been my main reason for using the Software renderer in prior versions. What exactly is still missing from the OpenGL renderer?
This is happening to me, too. I made sure to test without any other addon loaded. I even tested both Sonic and Sonic+Tails. But no matter whether I tap, hold, or spam the Spin button, nothing happens with the mid-spin variants of the mod.

I'm guessing the Egg Rock room in that screenshot is the replacement for the central shaft in Act 2, and I'm guessing there's probably some kind of turrets/enemies in the central column, which the purple things serve to limit the sight/range of.
