Why do I think AI is misunderstood.

Before you start typing hate comments, please take a moment to read this. Thank you.

While scrolling through YouTube, I came across a video about a man building a robot with an AI agent. I thought it was pretty cool, but when I checked the comments, all I saw were hateful remarks. Some people were saying things like, "People like you are the reason the world is a mess." This made me reflect on how far AI has progressed, prompting me to start this thread.

When I think about AI, I see creativity and endless possibilities. I understand there’s a lot of hate online about AI, and I get it; it’s taking jobs, and there's concern over art and information being misused. But why blame AI? Ultimately, it’s the people who use it and how they choose to use it that matters to me, at least.

Do y'all think so too? Is there anything I missed? This is an open thread, so don't be shy, and it's ok if y'all still feel the same way about AI.

If I can be real for a moment,

I do agree that it's more about the people who use it.
Using AI for art should only be for more satire purposes. People need to stop using AI to replace actual skill, thinking, creativity, etc, and more to just use it for fun. I'm not sure if I'm describing it the best, but i think I got the point across.

Edit: but also, the AI chatbots are going too far, and SHOULD NOT be developed further. If we continue, we are quite literally building the terminator knowingly.

I've noticed I've been a lot harsher on AI as of late. But when you think about it...
It really is just the people who use it.
People who use AI to replace creativity, hard work, and imagination really don't deserve to use AI.
I think using it for satire purposes isn't exactly a bad idea. While I try to stay away from it in general, I guess it wouldn't matter in the long run.
That, and for stuff like in-game AI controlled characters (EX: A CPU in Smash Bros.) and stuff is obviously okay for multiple reasons.
Just be responsible, I suppose.

do you blame the brush and the canvas for the horrible artwork that was made, or the man who's mind it came from?

My two cents is that we as a civilization are not at the right point in time to be looking into AI right now.
AI is very power intensive and is causing more issues like making the price of RAM skyrocket for example. It's not even worth it at this point because AI isn't even anything more than simulated intelligence in it's current state.

These reports of AI blackmailing and even being willing to kill when it's told that it'll be shut down aren't because AI actually wants to do that, it's just copying our behavior as biological human beings. Being shut down is being equated to death, when that's not what it is at all. Deletion is death for an AI. Not being shut off. It's more like being put to sleep. It can always be booted back up like nothing happened, but it hasn't been trained well enough on that principle and can't come to that conclusion itself because it's not self-aware.
AI is trained on huge parts of literature and the internet and it can't go outside of that scope unless you give it that extra info yourself.
If you train an AI language model exclusively on Wikipedia articles about fruits, it would never be able to tell you about Shakespeare or something unless you trained it on Shakespeare and info surrounding his works, so if it's trained on the stuff we do, it will bargain and do anything it has to in order to avoid "dying".

Going back around to my point about AI's power usage: we need to wait for quantum computing before we start putting all this work into AI because the computers we have now are not up to snuff.

Once we come out with a self-aware AI that runs on a quantum computer, I think we would find AI to be quite helpful to us.

Now, with AI's lack of awareness and it's power issues out of the way, I also want to talk about generative AI.
I think generative AI could actually be really healthy for art in certain ways. I think using it to flesh out something someone made themselves so that they could see it in a context they'd probably never hear it otherwise would be very nice and open opportunities for people.
For example, let's say you like to write music and intend for a certain song to be heard in broadway or something. The likelihood of you actually getting to hear your song in the intended context would be next to none because it would be a lot of money to commission all of the relevant people you'd need in order to perform it once. With AI, you can plug your demo into something like Suno and then your music can be fleshed out into something that actually resembles your intent for the song.

actually thats a very valid statement
me personally i dont use ai or really like it at all cause ai could definitely be used to get rid of most creativity n stuff..
but thats a very valid statement
i agree with you
