Swift the "poorly drawn" Dragon WIP

(And because I'm a specialist in the rough pixel art style. (and maybe because I could clean them up as a challange, that could be fun.))​

I know that it's kinda wierd that I'm working on this mod alongside you even if my version is detached from yours main version but I think that's the last thing that I will do for a bit regarding this character. So I remade three idle sprites in the old style for fun, and tbh I'm glad I don't have any character ideas because that took me 3 hours to make. :sadthumbsup:(Spriters need more praise tbh because sprite-work really time-consuming.)
And for me level design is just more rewarding and fun. So I will only do the rest of idle sprites and nothing more. Also you can use them/use as reference, but I'm sure you won't need because you're like- the creator of this character. And after putting them in-game I kinda started to like the fact that she's bigger than all the others. It has it's unique charm. I guess that this can be something of a feedback but instead of just writing stuff I can show it, or something.
This genuinely makes me even more hyped for the new sprites! Remember to take your time, and be sure to make this the best version of this character that It can be! (For your skill ofc. Don't have extremly high expectations on yourself!)

Welp, Here's the first of redone sprites done (yeah, the size changing is still here but I prob fix that later down the line or not)
My goal was to capture all her three head-spikes in all angles since that's really her main "iconic" thing about her

Other than that, I take a break from redrawing the SRB2 sprites and start working on that Ring-Racers redraw then after I'm finished with that, I work this secretly until where I was left off before then, hopefully it doesn't take that long lol

Even if the sprite size in all angles is still incosistent, I really can see the progress in quality. And I guess that I went for more traditional style of angle sprites, the way you draw those has it’s own charm, it’s has strong goober energy.

And I have two tips, the first one is if you really want to have consistent sprite size I recommend drawing the ”base sprite” and then drawing other angles on top of it. This is how I did my fan-made sprites, It does work wonders when your try it. (Or maybe her body is just non-euclidian :knuxsmug:) Just choose the ”anchor” for sprite size, for me I used the head and the belly.

And the second is for smooth angle showcase, because you don’t have to use the automatic camera mode too see all angles, in the console just type ”still_camera on” It make the camera lock in the angle it was before the command was typed in. And now your character won’t always face the real camera. (And because the way auto camera rotates looks kinda meh)

And I see that Swift gets Tyson Heese/Junio Sonic treatment with the ”all spikes being visible in all angles” quirk. :knuxsmug:

Anyone that readied that docx, I say the Fang or Metal Sonic Boss (prob fang) was going to be replaced with someone else, well it's this thing, Spear (he's a guy by the way)

Honestly, I'm shocked about that people are actually liking this basic character that have mostly "bad" sprite-work but I'm not complaining lol

Seeing that now we have a Shadows counterpart how about you try redrawing SA2’s boxart but with these two instead! It could be like some sort of promo art for this mods page when it comes out. I bet this art would go hard tho.
(And remember that it’s up to you if you really want to draw it. Just so you know, I ain’t forcing you to draw anything.) Or maybe you could do it when you’re done with spriting so won’t have to spread your focus.

Yipee! Haven't played it yet but I was always wondering why adventure sonic speed was going berserk after loading her in. That makes more sense now... (Yipee!:wow::wow::wow:)

I've only given it a test run so far, I like dragon doing dragon things even if it's just a basic S_SKIN with some pre-made moves.

The momentum Lua doing ~103 in $perfstats 3 kinda concerns me though, especially if it's not doing anything I can tell of. (more of a nitpick than anything but shouldn't it be a CL_ instead of a C_ if it has Lua?)

Yeah, the momentum (and no-airwalk) LUA is mostly untouched (because I didn't wanna screw anything up lol) so, any weird stuff in LUA was just in the OG LUA itself also didn't know about RIDE sprites still having those numbers on (idk why SRB2 didn't notice this, it anyways does if stuff like this happens)

I noticed a wierd goof at back-left/right sprite angles. In some character states there's a really small difference between side angle and back-left/right which makes her wierdly snap to the back angle.

If you want to fix it you could use Sonics hurt sprite as reference due to him also having spikes.

At first I wanted to draw a concept of how it could look like with Swift, but after trying, I understand why your sprites look these way, this was an awful experience even trying to drawing those. :dramahog: My brain can't comprehend that all that perspective stuff.

But I can tell you that the standing angles look pretty natural, the only thing that's kinda odd is how her hand switches position in the back-left/right sprite angle. I also made a small edit that makes her hand position consistent with other angles.

I noticed that you have the most problems at that cursed back-left/right angle and to be honest I truly understand why. Perspective is hard especially with lack of shading and those spikes. But overall all remade sprites look pretty good and there's no severe size inconsistencies anymore. It's way, way better than the original sprites. :oh:

I was wondering on one thing, if Sonic is like 1 meter tall, and Swift is taller than everyone else, does it mean that she's sized like an average human? I'm out here randomly asking the real questions.
And I found your secret whiteboard-looking image in the sprites folder of the PK3 :knuxsmug: Cool art btw, all of these go hard. (Also, what is that out of place/style Swift looking character in a black jacket at far left of the image? Genuinely wondering who is that.)

I own a collection of these jelly squishy guys and I knew what I had to do when I saw the similarity. And I also messed up when importing my front sprite for Swift and for some reason it got streched and sized up even though these sprites were the size of average SRB2 sprite. (Never let me use Paint.net again. I hold too much power.)

This is what happened when I draw a character that wasn't meant to drawn in different angles, you get weird stuff lol
also, glad you liked the remade sprites, I put my blood, sweat and tears into it (not really XD)

Well, she is sized at average human adult but sightly taller, so yeah

Thanks, lol also that character is still Swift but in a different artstyle drawn by the legendary, Rogerregorroger, who was featured in the Sol Sestancia 2 Level-pack (go play it, it's REALLY good) I just wanted to draw her in my artstyle (also this appearance is canon to the Swift-Lore)

I don't know if I should make Swift's running animations, a basic running one or having wings/gliding one like a basic running sprites makes sense for her but Swift randomly having wings that appeared out of nowhere is so funny to me (plus less frames to draw, so.... probably sticking with the wings lol)​
