Issues with using controller to play

I'm trying to play using a controller, but an error pops up when trying to pair it with player one's profile that says "This gamepad is used by another player. Reset the gamepad for that player first." I've unmapped all of the second player's gamepad actions and it still isn't working. Does anyone know what I have to do?

This is a common problem. What kind of controller is it?

It's a PowerA Nintendo Switch Controller.

Ah yeah, that makes sense. The most common solution is to load SRB2 through Steam and use its controller functions instead, or use a controller emulator like x360ce.

what if it's a Xbox controller because i tried mean it worked for every other game on steam or smth but nor with srb2?
