srb2 and srb2 message board lore and trivia and stuff by the srb2 community and neonhedgehog

I recently made a backup of what was on the Wayback Machine...
Here's what was left of the pre-crash MB:
  • folder_big.png
  • iron_latest_reply.png
  • faq.php
  • index.php (May 2003)
  • search.php
  • viewtopic.php
  • index.php (September 2003)

Literally only 6 files survived.

The true irony is the fact that the archives from December 2003 contain 200 files at most.
Guess we're lucky that ANYTHING from the member lists survived.

maybe we shud ask ssntais who was the first member of the message board?
It's already been confirmed in the thread: pre-crash, we have evidence of SSNTails being the first legitimate member on the pre-October 2003 crash MB.

The rabbithole goes deeper. The pre-crash MB might not be the first iteration of a SRB2 forum...

We have more to go through, including the fact that SSN (the site where the prefix to SSNTails' name comes from) might have housed the original SRB2 forum, followed by EZBoard, THEN Sepwich.

By the way, that image is of what useful files of the SRB2 site (back when it was on SSN) were archived. Everything past 2000 doesn't contain much.

On the other hand, we know of yet another forum iteration from 1999/2000 to 2003, which would be when it was hosted on EZBoard. The archives of it are no longer up for viewing/backing up on the Wayback Machine, however, with a bit of CDX magic, I was able to comb through all that was archived of it (90 files ranging from 2001 to 2004).

So here's the timeline here:

Unknown-1999 or 2000: SSN (I say 1999 because of the ssrg move that took place in December)
1999 or 2000 to March 2003: EZBoard (Archives of this aren't for viewing on Wayback Machine, however, as mentioned above, a list of pages that did get archived is included as an attachment.
March 2003 to August 2009: Sepwich (Based on evidence from the member list, the forum was established in late 2002 but the move there did not occur until March 2003.
August 2009 to December 2020: vBulletin (Some people may have differing opinions on when the vBulletin era ended, whether it should be when the transition began or ended is up to you)
March 2021 since: XenForo (Same with vBulletin, differing opinions)

What is that "pre-crash" you are talking about?
When SRB2 used to be hosted on Sepwich, a crash occured in October 2003. The result of the crash included a wipeout of data (meaning nothing and I mean nothing was saved, save for seven files, none of which were threads).

Which is why our CURRENT member list has someone random going by smidge(insert numbers here) as the first member: The post-crash Sepwich member list has been carried throughout all future moves, something that didn't happen when moving to Sepwich.

That reminds me, I made a list of members from what was gathered via the URLs on that archive list I sent earlier.

this is proof that stealth the man behind sonic mania plus once joined the srb2 message board
I mean, yea? He was involved in the project at one point, after all.

Also, this nails down when the April Fools ban that caused SSNTails to add SSN to his name occured: the EZBoard era. April 1st, 2002. As we know he went by SSNTails by 12/27/2002, this is when it had to occur. Also backed up by the first instance of SSNTails on the EZBoard forum being in May 2003.

This also reminds me of that there was a stjr message board on their old website here, It seems like its the EZBoard, however.
Though when you click on the link, the wayback machine tells you it's been excluded from the website, a shame.

EZBoard for ya. Yea, looks like it's the EZBoard forum.

Also, by this point, going off how SSNTails isn't listed as a maintainer of the EZBoard forums, it's likely that Sonniku is the first EZBoard-era forum member. I mean, it literally says he's the forum's founder on the website. The SSN forum iteration is either way between SSN or Sonniku.

i wonder how’s the message board staff is feeling about this threat tho

SSNTails recently stated on the 20YA server that there was never an SSN-era board.

Going from the list of members from the EZBoard-era forums, there's a few candidates:
electrokitty (April 2001)
jex (May 2001)
stealth (May 2001)
tails (May 2001) (significant as this could be the banned account that gave birth to the SSNTails name)
thesupersonic (May 2001)

EDIT: For those trying to contact Sonikku right now, he's got a job, y'know. He can be contacted the Discord server as he's somewhat active there.
