SRB2Kart 1.6 actually works on Windows XP. There are some tripwires to watch out for though.

First of all, the game won't run at all. Error message: "EnumDirTree" wasn't found in DLL "dbghelp.dll".
This tells us, that the specific system file being called "dbghelp.dll" is too old. On Windows XP SP3, installed was dbghelp.dll v5.1.2600.5512 (look for the file in C:\Windows\System32 and check the version number under "Properties" -> "Version"). Some newer dbghelp.dll are compatible with XP, for example version 6.12.0002.633. You don't have to replace the older file, as this might break compatibility with other programs. Instead, just copy the newer dbghelp.dll in the SRB2Kart folder. Then the game will use it instead of the original file.

How to get a newer dbghelp.dll? Look around the internet or search your entire hard disk for dbghelp.dll. I found a newer dbghelp.dll than the original Windows one in the folder of my Mumble chat program for example.

Considering computer stats, I'm running SRB2Kart on a 2007 Pentium D (Dual-Core, 2,6 GHz). The core game takes up to 520 MB of space, but mods may pile up sooner or later when joining online games on servers. Better to have 5 GB of storage available I guess.
Graphical performance did improve though reducing the screen resolution to 640x480. Smooth 60 FPS on almost all tracks.

Some problems occur when playing online. The game crashes, when it allocates more than 1,8 GB RAM (check this stat in the Task Manager with Ctrl+Alt+Del). That much RAM is used when joining servers with lots of mods (those servers with approximately 150 files to download). Hm... it's not like the PC would be out of RAM, as mine has 4 GB, so I wonder, why it happens.
For comparison, joining a Vanilla server only uses around 230 MB RAM. And other servers have less mods, so there are options for playing online.

Also with some servers, when trying to join them for the first time, the download of their mods fails. The logfile tells us an "SSL connect error", indicating some newer network traffic encryptions are not present on the old Windows XP. However a modern web browser (yes, they do exist for Windows XP in 2025) can access the mod files. Just browse the SRB2Kart server browser at https://ms.kartkrew.org:8860/. There you will find all the necessary files.

Well, just some experiences with using an ancient machine for SRB2Kart, but yes, it can do it!
