About the Roulette
(this is mostly for 8+ players and 1-2p grand prix mode)
  • The manual says that the roulette spins faster during the race and slows down if you’re behind for catch-up items, but it doesn’t say that some items become inactive during the start, and end of, a race.
    • The start of the race is simply before the 30-second mark, but the end of the race, however, is based on if your distance to the finish line is less than ENDDIST, a value of 14 ✕ DISTVAR (2048) = 28,672 fracunits before the finish line, which varies between maps.
      • Too complex? just think about the last item set on the last lap because that’s usually when the roulette switches to its end-of-race variant.
    • Specific items also get removed from their useodds tier when someone else holds or uses it (i.e. Shrink and its 60-second cooldown, or the Elemental Shields (+ the Garden Top)), causing the roulette to have an altered pattern!

    • If the SPB is traversing the track, the frontrunner’s roulette will revert to its start-of-race variant so that they can’t roll the Thunder/Lightning Shield immediately; they have to roll it ahead of time!
  • Another thing that the manual doesn’t say about the roulette: you can’t immediately select an item when you hit an item box, pressing [ITEM] during the first second of the roulette doesn’t do anything because, as the code says, it’s to “prevent accidental immediate item confirm."
    • Instead, hold [ITEM] when you hit the item box to immediately confirm the item you get after the first second!
      • This method works best for Prison Break, because you’ll be guaranteed Triple Gachaboms since the roulette’s speed is consistent in that mode.
  • Useodds are based on distance to 1st place, but I haven’t listed the exact distance threshold of each one yet; you can probably know which useodds tier you’re on if you pay attention to the first 2 to 3 items listed on each one (unless the roulette’s spinning at its fastest, just spam your item button at that point).
    • Due to how I list the items here, after the last listed item, the roulette loops back to the first listed item.
  • The Self-Propelled Bomb isn’t listed here because it’s based on SPBSTARTDIST (8 ✕ DISTVAR = 16,384 fracunits) & SPBFORCEDIST (16 ✕ DISTVAR = 32,768 fracunits), depending on how many fracunits 2nd place is away from 1st place (secondToFirst).
    • If the value of secondToFirst is greater than (or equal to) either of these values, then the SPB will either appear in the roulette (SPBSTARTDIST), or appear on every slot in the roulette (SPBFORCEDIST).
    • It can’t be rolled at all if:
      • The frontrunner is near the end of the race (when their distance to the finish line is less than twice of ENDDIST (28,672 ✕ 2 = 57,344 fracunits)).
      • Its own cooldown starts after someone uses it (20 seconds).
      • One is already on the track.
