its always something. one day ill have an update and that'll just be the end of it
This only affects the SSP_MiscChars Minipack! The main pack and any other minipack is unaffected. (Specifically, I forgot to add the custom palettes for the new characters. I guess that doesn't activate a warning, because they didn't pop one up while I was testing. shrug)
Thus far I have been keeping a ratio of 2 followers to 1 racer, because that's what my promo graphic facilitates, and I've been spending a lot of time on the mapping. And more maps are to come! Followers idk how much, although i'm probably not DONE with them. I also did all those resprites for the rebrand. the point is, i've spent a lot of time not Making New Racers, and I figure it's about time to see some new faces. so here they are!

Incidentally, I've wanted to do spamton neo for almost as long as RR's existed, while carving man is very new, and aston machan splits the difference as "Id figured id PROBABLY want to make her for ages, since she shares part of my "putting my face on everything" gimmick, but I physically couldnt until now because I needed voicelines."
Unusually for me, I made these three in tandem, and while working on them - but mostly spamton neo - i said "im so much better at sprites in general and robots in specific now. how is it that mazinger z is languishing with 2024 sprites. this must not stand." so theres ONE resprite![]()
plans for the future... maybe my next map? I'm hoping to take a break from RR for at least a little while to actually experience new things again, but I'm famously bad at estimating how long my breaks will be. I do know what my next map will be, so I suppose it just depends on if a racer catches my eye before that point. I'll see you then...!!
also there is one follower. machan would be displeased with me if i did not include her famous plush![]()
Would you believe it's not actually anything from the map that prompted this. Like, yes the map needs hotfixes, but its actually the lua thing that needed it
FIXES:
all characters with custom tricks (including only for their 3d models (which I keep around for some reason even though im not doing models anymore)) used to have their signposts break if they trick right after the line. no longer
forgot to make drill showtime's music tracks, which are definitely super copyrighted, flagged as content ID unsafe. sorry!!! but i dont think anyone streamed it anyway you'll live
there were like 3 offset vertices on drill showtime, and the console would silently complain about redundant slopes. both fixed
casual koopas new signpost has slightly better anti aliasing and a tiny bit more detail on the claws
hopefully this is the only hotfix until next time...!!

It's a new map!!! wawawowie!!! This is Drill Showtime Zone, which is another "shrine to everything a character encapsulates" type of map, but Teto has a lot more to pull from than I, Regular Guy do. In practice it's meant to play something like Haunted Ship and Hidden Palace, most obviously in the big walltransfers you'll be asked to try shooting for Acid Drop for - or just fastfall with a spark for consistent speed. Given that I had so much source material to pull from, there's lots of references to various Teto songs I like all throughout the track. You might even see some extra characters! (As background elements. More playables is probably next update.)
OTHER CHANGES:
![]()
- This lightstick follower is very annoying to make a showcase for but I promise it's actually 16 angles on top of its 5 frame animation. It also glows in the dark!
- Last update, the Shellscrew Pack rebrand, I added the new logo as a sign on the track itself. however, it was in a weirdly awkward spot (at the edge of a U turn? what was my thought process??) and also i completely forgot to check it for encore mode. It's been moved and also has a new encore variant to match the palette.
- Teto's Shellscrew Giant dialogue has been changed, owing to it used to have a section about how "maybe she'll get a map someday!" and this is that map. Incidentally, if you're waiting on the one character teased in the SSG dialogue - sorry, I'll get to him!!! eventually!! but I've been putting off other characters FOR drill showtime so he might be a while yet
See you next time!!! or if there's a hotfix I need to put out!!! if there is at least itll be for a map so I can update ring the racer's dialogue with a new embarrassing hotfix name while I'm at it
apparently simpler animaL's update last february is optimized in a way that affects my characters. If I'm reading this correctly, it's an extremely marginal change, but I'd feel bad about anyone running my pack and it's unnecessarily slow... but unfortunately I'm working on a map right now so I can't include a compensatory follower like I've done with previous hotfixes
Also, like I said would happen on the next update, the koopalings are completely gone now. you can get them from the history log of version 20 - they never used lua so they're not affected
It's a rebrand!!!
![]()
Although it might not've been obvious, given that the only instance the average person is likely to see is the map name, "Shellscrew" is meant to be my equivalent to the "Egg" prefix Eggman projects often use. As the interests of my pack have expanded, I feel a broader name is more suitable - and, given "an unusual amount of hyping myself up" is one of my pack's themes, I've had my mind on the branding of the pack.
Given that this is both the big V20 And a rebrand, the focus of this update that I chose is bringing my old work up to speed... and that means cutting the koopalings. Frankly, they were unmaintainable and were direly showing their age. In this post, they're available in the minipacks as pure standalones, but any future update - even a hotfix - will completely cut them. They're here now just so that they're accessible from the history tab in the future.
In their stead, with my favorite character being freed from the weight of his peers and lots of new follower slots opened up, here are three full resprites and 6 new followers!

After so long of not wanting to play this characters owing to the age of their sprites, I truly feel like I'm getting them Back after so long. It is good
OTHER CHANGES:
There is now a new minipack!!! Synth Followers have been split off from Misc. Followers into their own category, and are separately downloadable in the minipacks.
Shellscrew Giant has a feeeew more rings in the second corkscrew, and the gray springs are now angled rather than panels, such that they send you onto the next part of the track much more consistently.
Hermit's Garden has several new item spawn locations, in the hopes of lessening item drought problems.
Teto's Shellscrew Giant dialogue has been altered to come off a little less somber.
SSG dialogue relating to the Koopalings, as well as Casual Koopa's teaser for a future character, have been adjusted.
One new dialogue has been added for a member of SMKC...
And that's it! Big update this time. This still isn't the end of the pack! I don't know when I'll get around to doing more maps like I keep saying, but I already know which characters I want to do next time, so sooner or later Shellscrew Pack will continue. I hope to see you then!!
Hermit's Garden Zone uses the shining pom follower for its prison egg. However, the Map-Only version doesn't have those! So, if you load the maps without the follower, it gives a warning. Oops
(It now simply doesn't use a custom follower in the split pack. That functionality is now an exclusive bonus for the combined pack)
in which I am trying new things!!
MAJOR ADDITIONS:
HERMIT'S GARDEN ZONE (Battle)
![]()
Trails in the Sky the 3rd is good!! I really like it! I also love battle mode so I've been really excited to get battle rep in the pack.
SHELLSCREW GIANT DIALOGUE
![]()
I've always wanted to write dialogue for my characters, and with a total of 100 conversations (64 basegame characters, 25 of mine, and a feeeew extra) I finally have! Open Shellscrew Giant in singleplayer and turn around at the start of the map to read it.
PATCH NOTES:
Casual Koopa's face and shirt now have improved anti aliasing - my face has always been meant to look like an MS paint doodle, since I liked that as a kid, but I think I deserve to look in-style by now. I also now have a trick animation!
Profreshional's face is now significantly anti aliased, as is the life ring, And his skin tone has more contrast, AND his grizzco logo no longer flips during lookback - I don't know HOW I missed all this the first time. What was I doing??? but it's fixed now
Estelle + Joshua and Marcia have touchups to their signposts
Removed the Nebula palette in favor of Spacechase, a palette that colorizes characters or followers it's applied to
SHELLSCREW GIANT ZONE: The first shortcut is now a trick panel to help teach the map's gimmick. The toxomister capsules at the end of the first corkscrew have been replaced with ring capsules. The bottom layer of the final gravtech bridge is now more forgiving, to further incentivize triangle dashing down there. In turn, the top route has had some of its ballhog capsules replaced with sneakers.
that's everything! I, as always, have future plans (that you might get a hint at from the SSG dialogue!), but also as always, have no time scale on when that's going to happen. Also, I've been thinking about renaming the pack to Shellscrew Pack, because that's the new Branding word i've been using to represent myself in ring racers now. Could be for version 20! I hope to see you then!
these esoteric follower animations got hands!! which is to say, i missed an offset on the failsafe beast monokuma hitconf for if you combo someone. my bad!!! please forgive me
guy who forgot to add FF|ANIMATE to gokichas hurt animation so she didnt animate. sorry!!!!
