Ok, after quitting SRB2Riders, I've started to get a little bored. Since most of my projects are just "Add to it when I get an idea" I've felt it was time to devise something new. Or at least recycle a relatively old concept.



Some of you may recognize this, the name of the mod is Emerald Racers. Awhile back, I worked on this, releasing betas over netplay under the alias "Shooting Star" Didn't you notice I seemed to know about it, without ever appearing in those netgames? ;)

So, the basic premise is that you control a character in a superform, and fly around at ridiculous speeds. I'm still just exploring concepts for the levels, and I don't have WadAuthor on this computer. But I do intend to have levels designed for the flight gimmick.

This topic isn't a release, nor a team recruiting, nor much of anything. Really just an unveiling of sorts. Suggestions are welcome, and all that yada. No, you cannot test, nor can you sprite, level make, or anything like that. this is to be a one-man project. So yeah.
 
K, but I do think that this might need some custom weapons if you want any match/CTF maps. Besides, I'm just wondering how many gametypes you'd want to be suported. Match would be real interesting, but race mode seems... boring.

Also, EXE mod or heavy socccing?
 
By fly around, do you mean press jump to go upwards,, spindash to go downwards, etc., or just using the built-in SUper Sonic fly ability?
 
From what I've heard, it uses a heavily socced Fly ability that goes forever and pushes you forward at high speeds. But I could very well be wrong.
 
I wouldn't call it a heavy SOC, but yes, it is SOCced. I found that working with the source code was too inconvenient.

Zero4, I was originally thinking of only supporting Time-Only race, but I've considered how I MIGHT be able to revamp other gametypes. My thoughts:

1. Rings to fly through with varying effects, from increasing ring count, to just adding to total items collected. To give Full Race some actual point.
2. I short ranged "Dome of energy" attack, for Match, Tag, and CTF mode.

Yeah, I don't think much.

To anyone who hasn't played the public betas, gameplay is as follows:
The player may run around freely, normally, but that's no fun. By pressing the jump key mid-jump, they begin flight mode. During flight mode, they spend a few seconds accelerating to MAXMOVE. They may ascend by holding jump, and slowly descend otherwise. However, they may also dive down by pressing the spindash key. I've considered a way I could work in a simple "press jump to ascend, spindash to descend" however, I'll test it out in a bit.
 
Released through netgames awhile back. No you can't get it by bugging me. But enough people have it, it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Edit: I've tested out my Jump to Ascend, spin to descend thing. It works for the most part, but you descend about twice as fast as you ascend, which I don't like. So I'll just stick with "Press nothing to slowly descend"
 
Sounds realy good. It does seem a bit unfair that we have to download it by joining the net though. I guess I'll wait for the beta to appear on the forums.
 
I do have a VERY early one, but it doesn't work anymore. (It crashes upon jumping twice or spindashing.)
