Kart characters are significantly easier to make. They require no abilities and way fewer sprites.

Both SRB2 and Kart use a 256 color palette for all textures, sprites, and graphics.

Making an SRB2 character is a massive venture. They can require as many as 200+ different sprites, not to mention abilities.
