Shadow '05. Yeesh.

Polygonal Demon Soldier lmao
This game could be considered the prologue to 06, in the sense that it came out a year before, and was almost as bad. From the late 90's to the early 2000's, Sega was incredibly desperate to keep it's head above water, despite having a new, successful franchise, Sonic The Hedgehog. To stay in the game, at least as a publisher, they felt they needed to pump out games as fast as possible, leading to them having seriously under-developed or just plain weird games, the games being weird because of their fondness of experimentation. One such weird, and from what I've seen, surface-level bad game, is Shadow The Hedgehog. Sega's second cross-platform Sonic game, coming after Heroes (using the same engine too!), they decided they wanted to make the franchise more serious, seeing as the "edgy" character they had made for Sonic Adventure 2 was so popular it apparently warranted his own game. How did they make it more serious, you ask? By giving Shadow a gun and making him say "damn" 20 times a minute. (Fun fact, the ESRB 10+ rating was created while this game was in development. Because they started making the game before the rating existed, it was originally going to be rated T, where they could go ham with profanity. Jason Griffith says that he recorded things like "Give me the f****ng Chaos Emerald", before 10+ was made, where they changed the script to fit into said rating. I wonder where that old script is...) This game is definitely strange. Now, what I'm posting for is to ask about your experience with the game. Had you heard of it before now? Did you play it? If so, what on? If you've heard of it, have you actually seen any gameplay? (As, in if you haven't played it.)

yeah i've heard about Shadow the Hedgehog '05 before
played the game on my Wii (mine is backwards compatible with GameCube discs)
i enjoy it a lot, but some of the missions in the game are pretty confusing (that's probably just cause i'm bad at games in general though)
also the black warriors in that game are my favorite enemies, they're so awesome

Never played it, but it sure as heck looks bad. Especially the missions.

It uses the same engine as Sonic Heroes, and it has a Spindash, so one day there might finally be a Spindash in Sonic Heroes through some sort of backporting. If that and a mod that added better, less jerky controls existed, I'd finally give it a shot.

I played this game on release. I got it a day early from street date by a wonderful Best Buy employee for my 11th birthday, and it's easily the most hyped and excited I'd ever been for a game in my life.

It's fine- I didn't hate it. I was disappointed because I thought I beat it within a day, but I was just racing through levels and being neutral. So while I was glad I had more levels and branching paths, a lot of the missions are a huge pain. I found myself not really using vehicles, so the feature seemed like a bit of a waste, but I liked having projectiles to shoot enemies with as I passed them by, and the idea of teaming up with specific characters on different levels- too bad it didn't really highlight any character dynamics or interactions or mechanics aside from the mission structure.

Overall as a kid I probably would've given it a 7/10. I'm sure if I played it now I'd think far lesser of it, but I don't feel the need to return. It was a cool game in my childhood and that's enough for me.

From what I've seen while watching Lythero and Choctopus playing it, it's bad, yet sort of fun in its own way. And is a meme fountain. "Disgusting black creatures, get out of my sight." What colour are you, Shadow?
