My First Character

Hello everyone. Lurker of like one or two years here. I am in the process of making my very first character! I am here to ask for your feedback on what I have so far. This is a momentous occasion for myself and I do have plenty of questions. The one I have now is about shading. Any tips on how to go about shading on the sprites? I'm still learning when it comes to proper shading and placement and the signpost was copied from a picture.

I don't know how far this will reach, but I'm willing to get any assistance in any way I can.

If you need help on shading I have like this really old tutorial. The advice I can give that isn't in this is just to make the light come from one direction, not multiple.

It's Hello Kitty. The character's name is Hello Kitty, not Little Kitty.

I am making another character and was wondering if there is a way I can shrink this without making it blurry? Or am I thinking crazy
