Mario Kart/CTR Style Jump

Another day, another work in progress. This time it's a fun little experiment I have been making over the course of a few days. Like the title says: it's an attempt at integrating that style of jumping before drifting into ring racers. I call it "Spring Racers". This will make more sense when I get to the release part of this addon (if I get there...)

Here's how it works: When you tap drift, you'll be launched ever so slightly into the air. This is what some refer to as a "jump". Holding drift, however, will activate what I call a "slowfall". No, it does not slow your descent, it's merely a less powerful version of the fastfall. It's meant to give you better control of drifting. Without it, initiating drifts would require you to wait the full length of the jump before being able to actually start drifting, and the jump is fairly high. How high exactly? High enough to jump over most obstacles. Items such as Orbinaut missiles, landmines, drop targets, bananas, etc. This jump will not get you over tripwires on flat ground. That isn't to say you can't pass any tripwire with a jump. You will just have to think outside the box a bit :•).

There are two console commands. Those being:
"springracer_available" This is for server hosts to allow jumping to be enabled for players.
"springracer_active" This is for players looking to try the jumping. A jingle will play and text will appear in the console to let you know you've toggled it.

Not seen in the gifs provided is custom class-specific jump sounds I painstakingly made myself to have a bit more variety in races. I could have had just one jump sound, but if there's anything you should know about me is I will overcomplicate everything I touch. My ambitions will always get the best of me...

Anyway, that's it for the overview. Play around with it and let me know what you think. I'm sure there's going to be room for improvement.

I love how this mod silently references the way CTR/Crash Team Racing's Drift System works (pressing the Drift button to jump and then charge Turbo Boosts). It's just the little details out there that hook me over.

Besides the Spoiler, everything works as intended. Congrats on making this! :wonderful:

I will test this out to see if it is better than the already existing one!

Had the pleasure of testing this out with some friends online and it went how I expected. We have such amazing quotes such as:

"christ this is cursed"
"YOU CAN'T SLIPTIDE-IT'S A HANDICAP"
"you're a murderer and a maniac"
"you can sliptide if you break your arm and twist your neck"

Okay some of these might be taken out of context... Anyway, to no surprise, this is going to need some improvements. Some part of me was thinking that I wouldn't need to do any balancing with this, but I forget that 1.) I am the creator of this mod 2.) I tend to learn things quicker than everyone else, so while everyone was still dealing with this new obstruction to their normal driving, I had already gotten used to it.

There are some small problems that can be fixed, such as the spindash making you jump, or underwater jumping being much too powerful. Then there are some much bigger problems, like the learning curve, or the lack of sliptiding, and the overall balance of the idea. I have ideas to improve the jumping, and make it feel better to use.

If you have any suggestions let me know. I'm always open to them. Or if want to take apart the script yourself and giddly play with its insides thats also cool with me. I am but an ameture, and I consider lua scripting as a hobby as opposed to illustrating and mapping, so I'm sure you can find plenty of ways to make my stuff work better than I... I'll remember to keep this place updated when I can.
