Hey guys,
Some of you might recognize me from various judging posts over the years or just remember me from around the block. About two months ago, I resigned from my Judge position due to the ever-changing ways of life. As I was sitting down reminiscing about my time with SRB2, I realized just how much it has meant to me.
14 freaking years.
I don’t think I’ve ever been part of a community for that long. When I first discovered the game and logged into the MB, I was only 12 years old, playing version 2.0.6, meeting people in netgames, and checking out the various "top-tier" mods of the time. It was love at first sight.
The fact that the game was so easily modifiable instantly piqued my interest in learning how to create my own levels for others to enjoy. Granted, I never finished anything I started, but learning the ins and outs of whichever editor was stable at the time and discussing feedback and design ideas with other members are experiences I will never forget. Those moments shaped me into who I am today and gave me a deep appreciation for works of art created by regular people like myself.
Since that fateful encounter in 2010, I’ve met so many people, made lasting friendships, and even expanded my horizons to different communities, learning and sharing knowledge and ideas with others as if the creative drive never left.
I remember being there for 2.1's release and rushing home from school to check out mods newly powered by Lua, feeling starstruck by the incredible works of other community members—their mods and projects, such as Kart and SUGOI.
I remember 2.2's release arriving at a time when I needed it most in college, then being brought on as staff to assist with the Approval Queue and help host OLDC. It truly was one heck of a ride from start to finish.
Whatever the future holds for SRB2, Ring Racers, the community, and everything else, I hope it brings good vibes and good times all around. Seeing how much this community has grown in 14 years is truly a sight to behold.
I will never forget these amazing years. Here's to many more for both current and future members.
