anyone know how to make a character mod I've searched for a bit and couldn't find one

Well, there's a few places you could start with.

Now, these cover *most* of the needed files, but if needed, there's also many tutorials for spriting (especially the guides section of the message boards), but i found MotorRoach's tutorial to be the easiest to understand:
Finally, for lua, i think it's all about experimenting with whatever you want to do, especially as there aren't many lua tutorials. However, looking through this page in the wiki, you will probably find something that fits your needs (and if not, you can try looking inside other mods and see how they do it): https://wiki.srb2.org/wiki/Lua/Functions
