how do i go into software mode so i can access the 3d card settings???

It's automatically in Software mode.
You need to access OpenGL mode, not software mode.

You automatically "is" in?

To use OpenGL:
1. Use the launcher and check off "OpenGL" in the Options.
2. Use the command prompt and run srb2win.exe with the parameter "-opengl"
3. Create a batch file with "srb2win.exe -opengl" and run SRB2 with that.

To use Software:
1. Use srb2win.exe

I most of the time forget to add the letters because I type too fast.

If you are run the mac version. You can only run in OpenGL mode.
