Usualy you type
'addfile shadow.wad'
or something like that right? Well what I figured out is that sometimes that doesnt work because it didnt work with me. it said file doesnt exist, so what I have to type is
'addfile download/shadow.wad'
just incase the normal way doesnt work with you. :D

"Addfile download/x.wad" doesn't exist. The reason it sometimes doesn't work for you is because you probably typoed the name of the wad, or if you renamed the wad, you typoed that. "addfile shadow.wad" won't work with "shadwo.wad", for example.

The DOWNLOAD subdirectory of your SRB2 directory is where wads that you've downloaded automatically from servers are stored. You must originally have downloaded shadow.wad in that way.

Yeah, but even if you typed addfile in the console, SRB2 should always check subfolders for the wads.
It does. I have my WAD I'm working on in a subfolder, and if I type in "addfile scmtrf_ShRB2.wad", it loads.
