How to make Vanilla SRB2 run faster?

This problem has been on for days on end. I am an Win8 player. And i have tried the "Run as a Win7" (if thats the correct name) and it just goes slower! I really need help on this one.

You can reduce the game resolution but you will not win a lot of FPS and the game will still be laggy on heavy map.

If i remember correctly, Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft since it's life support ended. The two things i can recommend to you are that you install the 2.2.8 patch file and replace the files with the recent ones (Don't worry, you won't lose your progress) or run it as a different Windows version.
