I want to play custom maps and goof off in them but I can't because my save data doesn't carry over. Anyway to fix this?

whenever i play as either of the mario bros it lags out my game a ton and turning off 3d models wont help :(

So im using a switch pro controller and im not able to map stuff to the triggers and i dont have anywhere else to map fire and fire normal, is there any way to fix this?
