How did Knuckles knock the emeralds out of Sonic?

what’s his favorite game?
master emerald guardian simulator?
Uh, no, its actually called throw the master emerald off a cliff simulator. He said he had enough guarding the master emerald, and he knows he did a bad job on it./s

I like to say that since he only recently harnessed the power of the emeralds, he's still getting used to and learning what he can do with it. (Being more efficient with the energy and his movements and whatnot.) And because he's adjusting to the newfound power, his form is slightly unstable, and he can't hold on to the emeralds as well as he can now. (As it would take a really powerful blow to knock Sonic out of his super form.) And so, with a well-placed attack, Knuckles was able to knock the emeralds out of Sonic.

his punch was powerful enough to make sonic lose his rings
but there wern't rings scatered...

The factor surprise is the key then

I believe Knuckles has a special connection to the Chaos Emeralds via the Master Emerald. Therefore, Knuckles has a decent amount of control over the Chaos Emeralds

I remember thinking as a kid this was some ridiculous Knuckles > Super Sonic BS, but it's actually thought out when you look into it. Sonic Adventure 1 and Adventure 2 explain a lot in hindsight too.

The Master Emerald can stop/control the energy output by the Chaos Emeralds. Knuckles obviously knows that, and this fact wasn't made up by Adventure. In Sonic 3&K, you can leave the Chaos Emeralds at the Master Emerald shrine. They then stay there to have their energy channeled into 7 massive hollow "batteries", supercharged until they can act as temporary "Super Emeralds". (And perhaps unstable? They're damaged in Sonic Mania, and Hyper forms do constantly emit flashing energy & cause explosions.)

The S3 booklets say Eggman warned Knuckles about Sonic's arrival, holding those 7 emeralds that led to the downfall of his species. With that knowledge, and Sonic surely not being on-guard expecting to be invincible, Knuckles' ambush was free real estate™. He could simply lie in wait, cancel the emerald energy, then pierce Super Sonic's defenses and steal the emeralds amidst the confusion.

I forget Sonic had proper writers at some point...I'm no classic stan, but Sonic 3's a great example of show-don't-tell.

GS really just flexed his Sonic Lore. I try not to geek out, but everything he said is very on point. I know some fans only play Sonic games on a surface level, and that's fine. But not me I go deep.

Here's my theory-
SNK3 takes place immediately after Sonic 2 so that means that Sonic isn't that experienced with the super form so when he carelessly goes super and flies into angel island Knuckles was able to time his punch just right because super Sonic let his guard down thinking his invincibility will do the work for him, also the master emerald is the equivalent to the seven chaos emeralds so Knuckles has way more experience with the emeralds than Sonic because Knuckles has protected the master emerald for his whole life.
If you want a more organized and explained theory than just search up this question on YouTube and I assure you that you will most likely find your answer.
Thanks for reading.
sonic 3 actually does take place right after sonic 2

He is very strong, Knuckles can stop the emeralds with Master Emerald ( and also caught Super Sonic off guard ).
