Programs to use to make modded characters?

I have ideas for modded charaters, but I dont know what programs to use. As someone who is new to modding, i want t try with this game.

Use Aseprite or any pixel art program to draw the sprites using the template included in Kartmaker, and use Audacity or any other audio editing program OTHER THAN FL STUDIO to add the sounds
There’s a full tutorial somewhere on the site but I’ll have to send it when I get home

You could also use Libresprite which is a free alternative to Aseprite developed by the same team
