As seen in Super Mario Bros. 2, also known as Super Mario Bros. USA, the bravest of Princess Toadstool's loyal subjects makes his way into SRB2! While the Toads are known for their peaceful, timid nature, a select few exhibit gumption to match their...

okay so basically I don't know why this happened, but apparently if you walk off a snapper (at least that's what I think is the only enemy you can perform this on) from the edge at a S L O W pace, you wont be able to pick up the snapper, but then again, it won't be able to damage you anymore (I mean the snapper DOES instantaneously die the moment you pick it up, so I suppose it's a win/win for both toad and snapper), it's probably a bug so it MIGHT need to get patched, but then again since the snapper isn't able to damage you, it just kinda just pushes itself against you, and considering badniks are just flickies stuffed in robot suits, it'd just make this feel like the flicky inside the badnik pretty much gained control over the badnik's body, and seeing sm1 like sonic, or in THIS case, toad, the flicky would usually just rush towards them and showing a lil' bit of love to them (and by "lil" I mean literally rubbing their metallic body onto them), I feel like that's pretty wholesome if ima be honest :)

v1.0.1 - Day 1 Patch

Or, well, day 2, I suppose. I had this ready when the addon went live, I just wasn't checking my notifications often enough. :P
  • The Super Squat Jump could initially break fragile walls. It can no longer do this, since it shouldn't be necessary for progression and just led to a softlock in ACZ2.
  • The player can no longer pick up a broken monitor.
I've heard about a SIGSEGV that occurred when throwing a Ring Monitor at a Lance-a-Bot. I remember getting something similar...

Yeah, that's a bug. I noticed it around the time I posted about this mod in the WIP forum, but I couldn't figure out how to consistently replicate it, much less find what caused it.

well guess I WAS pretty much right about it being a bug...
but again, it's pretty cute to see badniks like a green snapper be friendly and loving to players in srb2, like a pet of some sort or smthn, idk I just kind tend to think on things a lil differently from what it is usually perceived as, lol

In regards to the review I posted and the request to elaborate on one part of it (I'm very new to this whole forum thing I don't know how to set this as a reply to that review specifically lol), the Sonic 06 level pack in particular contains a few mandatory paths blocked by spindash gaps, which as far as I'm aware, certain characters who don't have the ability to enter ball form physically cannot pass, such as E-102 Gamma and Trip the Sungazer (for some reason) without outside assistance. Unfortunately, this is also one of my favorites, and I also frequent this pack when playing around with new modded characters in singleplayer. That said, I haven't tested out the 06 pack as of this moment, and if Toad is able to be put into "ball" form by the boosters placed in front of these gaps that allow even Fang and Amy to pass through them, then my entire point here immediately becomes irrelevant for Toad specifically. I'll give this a quick test and give an update with the results.

Reached that one bit of White Acropolis that prevents some characters from progressing, and I'm delighted to actually be wrong about my assumption that Toad can't finish the 06 pack. Still, that's with the assistance of the booster that forces you into a spin, so the issue regarding crouching is still there for now. I look forward to updates for this character! :D

Several vanilla characters can't pass under spin gaps on their own. Neither can a vast majority of modded characters, from what I've seen. Those boosters are there for a reason, and any map with a required spin gap should have them, and if they don't, it's a fault of the level design.

PikaJade updated SMB2 Toad with a new update entry:

v1.1 - Crouching, Carrying, and Throwing Tweaks

  • Crouching now allows SMB2 Toad to fit under spin gaps
    • To avoid resulting softlocks, thrown objects can now break some walls
  • When a Power Squat Jump is charged, you'll hear a sound cue from Super Mario All-Stars
  • When jumping out of a crouch, you will remain crouched in the air
    • This will not happen if you charged a Power Squat Jump
  • Tall enemies will now turn translucent when carried for better visibility
  • Fixed the crash that would...

PikaJade updated SMB2 Toad with a new update entry:

v1.2 - More Crouching Fixes and Tweaks

  • You can now cancel a charged Power Squat Jump using Pluck
  • The Power Squat Jump sound will now consistently play when the Power Squat Jump is charged
  • The Pluck animation now takes priority over the Crouch animation
  • SMB2 Toad will no longer walk or stand in the air
  • Removed the skid particles while crouching, as they interact strangely with certain SFX

PikaJade updated SMB2 Toad with a new update entry:

v1.2.1 - Crouch Hotfix

I swore I'd never do hotfixes after Adventure Sonic's Milne Chronicles, yet here I am...

When playing as characters other than SMB2 Toad, you would previously be able to do a partial version of SMB2 Toad's crouch. This flew under the radar because I didn't bother testing what would happen if you added the addon and then just played as a different character. Neither did anyone else, apparently. Well, that should be fixed now!

PikaJade updated SMB2 Toad with a new update entry:

v1.3 - Camera Scaling, Compatibility, and Other Fixes

  • When holding an object, the camera will scale back according to the size of what you're holding
    • This effect can be toned down or disabled with the new cvar smb2_camerascale
  • Various death sound & multiplayer fixes
    • When dying to spikes, SMB2 Toad's death sound will now play alongside the spike sound, rather than just the spike sound
    • Characters other than SMB2 Toad will no longer cause the music to stop upon dying
    • When dying in multiplayer, dying...
