Does anyone know where the claim that this is "an art community" came from?

It's natural to get antsy when someone gets banned, but save for very niche exceptions, no ban is permanent - a good enough appeal usually lets you back. Considering Bandder was warned and given the whole reasoning behind his ban in advance, he should have no trouble to argue his case if he so wishes.
This sounds good but from experience I can say my Discord ban for posting a reaction meme in the pet channel never got lifted. I did appeal.

This dude will never come back.

"Is the SRB2 community an art community, or is it not?" Here's a better question: who even cares?
Allow me to answer that rhetorical question with a question: Has anybody calling this community an "art community" actually negatively affected anybody in the slightest bit?
You're both right. The case has already been made for why it's perfectly accurate to refer to this as an art community, and the point was never to outright force anyone to do so, just those of us explaining why we do see this as an art community. The question was also asked regarding why the other side specifically takes issue with this, and so far there doesn't seem to be an answer to this question.

Effectively, at this point the question isn't "Is the SRB2 community an art community?", but rather "Why is it considered so problematic by some that there are those of us who do consider this an art community?". As far as I can tell so far, nobody has actually put forth an actual reason for this. I've gone out of my way to post reminders of this being the question several times now and so far there's seemingly no takers.

The specific question in Tatsuru's words:
My question is what is the problem with treating SRB2 modding as art rather your personal opinion on why you think it should or should not be so.

Personally I'm very humble about what I do and if I called my mods art I'd feel pretentious.
I can totally get why it knocks up some people but luckily I don't care.

As Zipper said:
8 pages and I've yet to see the benefits of calling this an art community

it's a nebulous descriptor at best (everything is art so what do they even do?) and misleading at worst (oh I think they draw stuff???)
It's just misleading but as some people pointed out, this doesn't matter in the slightest lol. This isn't something serious or anything, so I think I'll make this post my leave on this thread. I wish you guys good luck on this.

It's just misleading
Since you are leaving the thread I don't expect a reply from you on the matter, but nonetheless I need to ask; what is "misleading" about referring to a community primarily centered around a piece of artistic media and the creation and discussion of transformative artistic media that is created for it by community members as an "art community"?

I don't really have a horse in this race, but from the outside looking in - I don't think it needs to be one type of community, and that one thing only.

Like, I'd personally call this a modding community first, because that's just what my brain goes to when I think of the board; but that doesn't mean it can't also be considered an art community, given the amount of art that goes into the usual mod. Or it could be called a subset of a Sonic community. Or various other things. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what it's called as long as it makes some degree of sense to the layman when talking about what this board is used for, which I think can apply to all of the community 'types' I just mentioned. Sure, I'd say 'modding community', but my brain won't explode into chunks if someone calls it an 'art community' first instead because it doesn't take many brain cells to see how that conclusion is reached.

I think the idea some have is that those wanting it to be called an 'art community' are being pretentious - and look, knowing some people, maybe that is the case for a select few. But I doubt most people who call it an art community give it a second thought beyond "hey, this community sure does make a considerable amount of art, so maybe it's an art community in some sense"; people who think art has to be the Sistine Chapel are just pointlessly reductive in a way that's not even worth taking seriously.

It's an art community, it's just many other things equally alongside that. And that's fine.

THIS!
WHY CANT PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THIS!?!?
Just call it a community and be done!
This isn't a situation to categorize EVERYTHING!

tbh I think calling it a modding community is probably the best ending for both sides, at least I think it is
The best ending for both sides is if you want to call it an art community you call it an art community, and if you don't want to then you don't, and both sides are respectful of what each other wants to call it.

I've been saying this the ENTIRE time, dammit. THANK YOU!

Calling this an art community rather than calling it a "modding community" is more insignificant. Is what I meant.
I disagree. I'd say there's equal value to both terms. Calling it an art community is less specific but it's still accurate and valid, and more importantly doesn't actually do anything to hurt anyone.

Yeah, but it's reasoning behind it isn't valid. Calling it a modding community adds in context between people who modify a game. Both terms are truthful between them, it's just I would stick with it the term "modding community".

It doesn't make any sense to say that a term is truthful but not valid. If it's truthful then it's accurate, and therefore valid. Games are art. Mods are transformative art. This is a community primarily centered around this art. There's absolutely nothing invalid about using the term "art community" to describe such a community.

If you don't like it, then just don't call it that. Don't try to force "modding community" onto others who don't prefer that term.

Okay, I'm starting to feel like I'm describing myself about both terms in the wrong manor. I can't really defend myself like this, but I'll say. You truly are historical in my book.

I'm not pushing it farther than it's limits, I can't justify it in a sense I acknowledge it for. I've always considered this being a "community" because it always has reflected on "art" as its stable, I know I felt a bit disruptive about both terms being valid in their own ways. I'm attempting to improve and move on from this, so I can learn more between them.
