Should we even call SRB2 SRB2 and not SRB?

Zac!

I exist…
Pretty easy to understand. SRB2 is completely different to it's predictor, SRB. Should we even call Sonic Robo Blast 2 Sonic Robo Blast 2, or should we start just calling it Sonic Robo Blast? Sure, the name is iconic, but they are completely different games. It you just change the story a bit, you might get to call this game Sonic Robo Blast.

SRB2 was originally very much like the first game, and the game as we know it today (in short) is a remake of the TGF version in a modified Doom engine. Also, it doesn't really matter how different it is from the first game in gameplay, it's still the direct sequel and as such the "2" is appropriate.

I guess I can understand!

Let's be honest, Sonic Robo-Blast is kind of a lame name to begin with. I mean no offense to Sonikku but you can tell he was 12 years old when he came up with that name. It doesn't really mean anything. Of course, we can't change the name now. I've always thought "Sonic Legacy" would be a good original name for SRB2 if we did though, since SRB2 runs on Doom Legacy and mimics the look and feel of the Genesis games in 3D. That name is taken now by a fan comic though.

This makes absolutely no sense. It’s the second game in a series so it’s going to have that 2 at the end. They follow the same story. Even though it’s different it doesn’t make any sense at all why you would ever want it not to have the “2”. Besides, SRB2 has a 2d mode, and used to have SRB1 inside of it.

Yes, we should, because I said so, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Serious answer: the story is a follow-up/sequel to the first game so SRB2 works. a subtitle might also work if you can think of one.
