I actually like the idea of Sonic being a jerk and owning it.

If that's how people are gonna judge him, anyway.

I just watched the Sonic OVA in its original Japanese format from beginning to end, and it's easily one of the best OVAs I've ever seen next to Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer, Street Fighter Alpha, and Tekken. From what I gathered, a lot of people quite predictably lambasted Sonic's characterization in the movie. Much like Sonic the Comic, Sonic was considered an unlikable jerk.

That is a bunch of whoey.

One other character that has immediately impacted me to where I wish I was more like them is Panty Anarchy. I don't care much for sex, but I love my freedom. Sonic and Panty are both similarly minded wherein they refuse to allow others to evaluate them. These two do not give a crap about other peoples' expectations of them. They are who they are, and if other people don't like it, tough. They refuse to assimilate.

Yeah, the Sonic in that movie is a good mix of his classic personality, and his late 2000s personality (Secret Rings,Sonic Unleashed, Black Knight)
and he IS pretty heroic

I wouldn't really classify Sonic as a "jerk". He can act like a jerk sometimes, but at the end of the day his heart's in the right place. He's just impatient and sometimes stubborn.
I agree. An example of Sonic being a jerk would be his characterization in the Fleetway comics.

tbh i think classic sonic should be more a jerk than modern, but still being nice, and recognize serious moments, but not being too mature either or too much jerky like how Pontac and Graff did.

Sonic's still kind of a savage tbh. In Forces he's got that exchange with Infinite where Infinite asks "How would you like your epitaph to read? How about 'Here lies the blue buffoon'" and Sonic replies "How about 'Here lies the masked clown'? It should be for the one who needs it after all."

There's also a scene in the IDW comics where he's talking to Surge at the resistance base and Surge says something like "This is a nice base you got here, it'd be a shame if someone trashed the place." and Sonic replies with "The bigger shame will be what happens to whoever tries it." With the biggest sh*t eating smug grin.

well here your taking two different case: forces was written by Pontac and Graff, who are know for ruining sonic by making him a clown. and the IDW being written by Ian Flynn who did sonic and other charachters really good. I wanted to point this out cuz for forces, Pontac and Graff sonic don't take anything seriously at all, while for Ia Flynn Sonic, he knows when to be serious.

AKA the worst writers of the franchise if we don't include archie comics.
Aw hell nah, not the Archie comics slander (cringe)

Also I don't if off-topic but Archie Sonic kinda falls in "being a jerk" style but at the same time, very different (best Sonic tbh)

yeah Ian Cooked in archie. I understand for IDW and games to be more like the sonic we had in unleashed, secret rings or black night, but it would be really cool to see how archie sonic would play in the canon. To stay on topic i wounder what is the less jerky version of classic sonic.

Ehhhh, I liked the Sonic character (even) more if he was his actual Archie Comic self tbh, He's more cool and badass, I haven't IDW Sonic do anything cool yet but whatever, back on topic, I'm pretty sure the Classic Sonic games and IDW comics literally is a less jerky Classic Sonic. The only media where Classic Sonic is a jerk is the OVA (kinda)

Those are more jokey and sarcastic instances. He's not just plain being a jerk.
he is a jerk. he said "SHUT UP TAILS!" WHAT DID TAILS DO? HE WAS YELLING FOR HELP TO SAVE DAT OWL MAN
Sonic was sleeping and didn't know the context. For all he knew, Tails was just being weird.
