Verbally speaking, anger is the easiest emotion to fake.

Okay.

Hot take.

Sonic never fell on "hard times."

Shadow, 06, or whatever people insist on ranting about never damaged Sonic's "reputation" and or "quality." It was our reactions towards them fan or not that caused everything to spiral out of control. Mania and Frontiers are not the best games to come in forever for there have been plenty of greats that people just choose to ignore out of preference. Fandom as a culture has been warped into a punitive meritocracy wherein everything down to the most minute detail must meet standards or else it's as good as garbage. Nothing is wrong with Sonic or Sega, but everything is wrong with the fandom. The problem is that people attach to an unreachable degree their own preferences to which is believed to be canon first. A long time ago, I let go of my hatred of Sonic 06 and many others games within the so-called "dark era." Shadow turned out to be my most favorite within that era. Now I plan I playing through a few titles at least of the new era of Sonic games beginning with Colors Ultimate. Here's the part where I am immediately accused of promoting "toxic positivity," an oxymoron if I ever heard one. It's two distractions forming and even bigger distraction. Many of Sonic's perceived flaws are blown so far out of proportion that they no longer register. There was a time where I believed that gameplay was superior above all else when it came to game design. I now believe that is an elitist racket. There is no superior element in game design; these elements all work together.

Besides all that, though, failure is the next best thing to happen to a guy depending on your attitude. I've failed plenty of times as artist and I chose to revel in it because I knew better than anyone else that it would only be used as a springboard for something greater than I would've imagined. Also, you'd be surprised by the wonders that can occur when you let go of the expectations of others. I've stopped listening to other people when it comes to Sonic, and so far I have never felt lighter. Did I also mention that I am a fan of Mighty no. 9 and Balan Wonderworld? Nobody really cares how those games turned out. Even whenever I meet something that doesn't appeal to me, I still make it a policy to take the elements that worked and work to reconcile them with what could have worked or was supposed to work. The ideas are there, they just needed to be better implemented. Word to the wise, it's way more fun and healthy even to build things up again after breaking them down instead of leaving it as it is. I believe our attitudes as a collective gaming community towards Sonic are what need to be challenged the most instead of having these unbelievably fake crusades dressed as concern for mental health and the gaming industry and economy. Instead of complaining about everything that is wrong in the world of Sonic and gaming in general, why not get up and make difference yourself? Sonic P06 should be a wakeup call that there is no such thing as something that cannot be saved or salvaged.

Honestly, I never disliked 06 or Shadow either. In fact, I can say ShadowTH and S06 are one of my favorite (more modern-era) Sonic games. I never found anything too bad or wrong with any Sonic game I've ever played.

so you're saying it's not because the games were of subpar quality and failed to reach expectations they set for themselves, but rather it was our fault for being disappointed at them?

look. people's reactions towards the games are directly caused by the games themselves. so in the end, it was all caused by sega, indirectly or not.

and whether you see something salvageable in these games today or not does not matter, because at the time they did not meet standards or expectations and the concerns people had with them were completely valid. sonic's reputation was damaged, whether you like it or not. i too see that these games could have had a lot of potential had sega actually made a good job, and i really like some of Sonic Heroes and 06, but you cannot completely pretend that these games were flawless. it was completely valid to expect something that matched the tone and quality of SA2 from Sega.

and I agree, there is no point in complaining about any of this today.

Prove me wrong.
it depends really

for example, i never really show any anger and cannot fake it haha.

so it depends on person and on their emotions

I don't agree. I think people like you drastically project.
