Last year, I started to become puzzled by the lack of documentation on SRB2's midi soundtrack. For the most part, the digital soundtrack always took center stage, which is understandable since it's the default for the SRB2 experience. However, there are many people who enjoy and sometimes even prefer using SRB2's midi music in game. This raises the question: why haven't we really seen any attempts to release the SRB2 Midi Soundtrack as a standalone collection? It’s to the point where currently, obtaining the 2.2 Midis either requires ripping them yourself or relying on an unofficial pack from elsewhere on the Message Board. So when can we expect a “definitive” collection of every known SRB2 midi file? Some people have tried to make this dream a reality, but it seems that there’s always a catch to these efforts. Examples would be a creator encountering some roadblocks that prevents them from truly completing the project, the midi pack in question is generally based on guesswork and likely sources the midis from only a few versions of SRB2, or the pack was made many years ago and is now considered incomplete due to the complete musical overhaul for 2.2. So on February 8th of 2023, Sauceloss the sucky do and I teamed up to thoroughly extract and rip the midis from every version of SRB2 organized by era. We also thought it would make sense to include midis from other STJr related games. We have also implemented a version system in this archive to combat the aforementioned concerns about this possibly going out of date, so you can check for updates periodically, preferably after a new version is released, as that's when updating the archive becomes a higher priority for us.

Download the Midi Archive and be on the lookout for any midis that you believe are missing. If you find that something is absent, do not hesitate to contact either me or Sauceloss about it. Our goal at the end of the day is to have the most complete SRB2 Midi Pack so it'll be much appreciated. Please note that if you are going to mention that a midi is missing, make sure it's publicly accessible through a version of SRB2 or elsewhere on the internet. If you find that an archive is incomplete, there's a chance that it's not an oversight, and we were unable to obtain certain midis, so please refrain from reporting that there's a missing midi if you can't find it yourself. Thank you.

IT'S FINALLY HERE! It was long time coming. Let me tell everyone that this was one sort of task I won't forget. Out of all the collections of SRB2 MIDIs, I think we have something that is truly comprehensive this time around. The fact that this is now here and publicly accessible puts a smile on my face. Shame we couldn't exactly get the post approved on Final Demo's anniversary, but this is still something to be celebrated. We put a lot of work into this.

it nice we had archives of these. (By seriously should had mirror downloads so that wont get lost)

Good luck on the search

I actually got SRB1 midi using a tool called CExtract. Didn't knew Dragon Unpacker could open them.
Was pretty hard to find so I understand if you didn't know it.
You can open the gam file with it and will show some files like a mus file that should be extracted using the same program and you have the midis.

Nice to know how many of the musics from older projects are actually within SRB2.

Forgot to mention this while ago, but there's been an update to the archive! (v1.02)

This is what was added:
  • The exclusive Christmas midis featured in the XMAS CD
  • The credits theme from the low version of SRB1
You can download it from the page I liked in the top post.

Oh, and the reference sheet for the WAD isn't off the table yet, but I might have to go back to square 1 and figure out how to organize the WAD itself since I'm not really satisfied with the pattern for how the midis are organized. So you should probably expect a radical change to the WAD in the future so that using a reference sheet and memorizing the lump names doesn't have to be as much of a necessity as it is already.
Although, even with that minor issue on my part, I'm still glad that I was able to run into more than a few people using it in their SRB2 servers, so I am very thankful for that.

v1.50 of the archive is officially out!

What's new?
  1. Several labels have been updated to be more consistent. Most (if not all) songs that go completely unused in their respective versions have the unused label in parenthesis now. (This does not include the Dave Bulmer's intro theme at the moment for 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2)

  2. Multiple new bonus MIDIs for your listening pleasure!

  3. The Misc folder contained in the SSNTails folder now has proper labels for each known song. No idea what INDEPEND is though.

  4. A new MIDI in the unused folder? Yes indeed!

  5. THE BIG ONE: The SRB2 MIDI Archive WAD has been upgraded to a PK3, with redone labels and now has a reference sheet. See the initial post once more.

Yeah, if you haven't noticed, a new update is out! (and this is a big one)

You can find it on the webpage at the beginning of the thread as per usual.

Here's some more detailed changes:
  • The Midi Archive mod for SRB2 was completely reworked from the ground up as a PK3 file with much more consistent lump names and interior folders. Plus, we now have a browser on the webpage which you can use to find music lumps, this is mostly for people who want to use it in their SRB2 servers, as the original wad has been used in a few by now (which we do encourage!)
  • Stuf’s original Blue Mountain Midi file has been added to the archive within the “unused midis” folder. (Thanks SSNTails!)
  • The invincibility theme in SRB2Xmas has been converted from mus to mid. (This is from a passing update, but it wasn't officially announced)
  • A few typos and errors in various labels have been fixed.
  • More bonus midis, of course, such as a version of Blue Mountain Sonix edited that matches SSN’s Digital Version more closely.
We're also thinking of adding midis from any legacy or reusable mods into the bonus folder in the future, but we're still trying to figure out how that's going to work.

Anyways, thanks once again, and I hope this is just as resourceful for you as it was to us. I must also ask that if you know of any other midis floating around or midis we happened to have missed, then please contact either of us about the matter.

12 year old me in his digital music phase woulda loved this, and current I also does thanks man

v1.52 is out now, and we have added a few new goodies to the pack such as...

XMAS 0.92 and Demo 1's Invincibility Themes
Demo 4's Zero Ring Zone
The Midis found in SSNTails' Assets for "A Pocket Lapse" (Found in the Misc folder for SSNTails)
Final Demo 1.09.4's Super Sonic Theme
... and a background midi from STJr's booth at Sage 2000 (Unused Midi)

We also are pleased to inform you that we have some more MIDIs in Vertz1515's Bonus MIDIs folder specifically. This includes two earlier renditions of O Zone's theme.

Hey, if this is still being updated, could you make this replace current MIDI's as a base concept? (It's an excuse for me to fix my game's MIDI music, lmao-)

Yeah, it's still being updated. Mostly behind the scenes stuff right now, but an update should be coming soon (hopefully before the end of the year and if we're lucky, the end of the month). I actually made my own PK3 that replaced all of the base game's music with primarily that of 2.1's MIDI soundtrack, with the most notable exceptions being the special stages (which use the themes from Demo 4) and Red Volcano using the MIDIs found in the "Unused" folder. There's a good few more bonus MIDIs coming in the next update too, and I've been meaning to check in with some people regarding the implementation of other MIDIs into the archive.

Any 2.2 MIDI thingies? Permanent? Cuz I used a mod, and it permanently patched itself over mah MIDI music.
