i like srb2 3d models
so apparently, people actually HATE sonic cd's us sountrack. any ideas on why people hate the us soundtrack? I personally like the US Soundtrack. Heck, I'll even say that Sonic Boom's ending version is better than Cosmic Eternity.

I do not *hate* it per se, but I don't think that a couple of the tracks (namely "Stardust Speedway") fit the levels as well as the JP tracks do.

Out of all the takes about the us soundtrack, you just had to say that the us credits theme is better than the JP one. Not cool.

Jokes aside I think it's like how people don't like the origins s3k music. They just don't fit the levels as well

Japanese's soundtrack of Sonic CD was always funky and full of energy, especially opening cutscene. It made the soundtrack of the game be slappin.

USA's soundtrack, however,is a whole opposite. Its like if you compare Sonic to Metal Sonic.Japanese one was more funky and chill, while USA one haunts with its creepy music(im looking at you Boss Theme and Game Over theme) which made the game' feel like you wont listen to ever(except Sonic opening theme in the game, that is actually slappin).

The composition styles are radically different, with Japan/international's soundtrack having a melodic emphasis and taking inspiration from various dance, j-pop and electronic music genres, whereas the U.S. soundtrack has more of an emphasis on atmosphere with a rock influence.

The lack of a musical thru-line between the past/present/future tracks is in my mind the biggest weakness of the American OST, and since there are no American past bgms, they stick out like a sore thumb. I would also argue that Sonic music is necessarily melodic, and since in the U.S. soundtrack the melody is a lot of the times dialed back or not even there, it almost doesn't sound like Sonic music a lot of the time.

I personally think the the origins tracks fit the levels perfectly fine, it's the soundfont composition that doesn't fit in with the rest of the game, and in particular sounds inferior to the original prototype tracks.
