Why can't Tails die? (Talking about playing as Sonic + Tails duo in any Sonic game that allows it. INCLUDING SRB2, of course.)

I know this is a very controversial topic for some of us here on the message board, and elsewhere. But it's time to ask the question (almost, or just about) everyone wants to answer!!
Throw your theories out there! If you don't have one, that's okay! Personally, I think that he THINKS he's dead, but is just teleported by some magical force back into the sky so he can fly back down and rejoin Sonic and doesn't question it for whatever reason, or maybe cuz he's grateful. What do you think??

Tails as an inventor has the ability to create 1-Up Monitors, so he just has infinite lives. But when you play as him he cant go offscreen and access his 1-Up stash.

Encore is a separate game mode in SMP. That doesn't count, as it's not the MAIN game. And you can't have a Sonic + Tails duo...hence why I'm disregarding it...

It's a non-canon game mechanic. Tails is part of Sonic's moveset in the Sonic & Tails duo, able to carry him up to higher up ledges or even be controlled by a second player to do coordinated attacks. Depending on the game, he even has an influence on how special stages are played. As such, Tails must respawn so that he can be around when needed.

If you really want a fan theory reason though, I could come up with one: Sonic worries about his twin tailed buddy a lot, and imagines all sorts of horrible things that could happen to him along the course of their adventures together, only for each time Tails to still be following along behind him just fine.

I think that tails either flies his way out of pits, or in every sonic game he's in, HE stole the chaos emeralds and it's HIM eggman's after. He would thus use those emeralds to cheat death.
