I'm aware that they both have different codebases. I was using GZDoom as an example of a port with that feature. Who knows? It might be possible someday, even if it takes a long development time.

True-color multi-threaded software renderer please. GZDoom added it this year, and I believe it would be a nice addition for SRB2.

GZDoom already contains the software renderer found in ZDoom, and with a new addition of a true-color software remderer too. It's about time ZDoom stopped updating, at least now we can label 2.8.1 as the official port for ZDoom demos. Anyway, quite surprised that SRB2 over 15 years old. Sorry...
