Are you using the Software renderer or the OpenGL renderer?

Emerald Hill Sonic 2 was always my favorite

I'm pretty sure what made me find out about SRB2 was a YT video of Sonic in a snowy area. (I don't think it was the bonus level) When he got to the end a Rosy was there, then there was a Rosypocalypse with Sonic running through Super Mario Bros' 1-2 with an army of Rosy the Rascals chasing him.
