Keep in mind that everyone working on models, maps, characters, and other things for SRB2 do so for free, which means progress is dependent on free time and even then, there is no obligation to finish the project.
For those who can't wait for a different model set, there is the possibility of making them in Blender and then importing in Maverick Modeler as an .obj file and then exporting as .md3.

Yes, Logan is still with us, check his Twitter (nobody calls it x).
On another note, please be patient, this is Logan's hobby, he makes this on his free time, he isn't forced to make this.
