what is the best 2D sonic game in your opinion

I read it before the EDIT. now I see that you credit it for sonic 2 for the physics

also ya now I see that my bad bro
I was crediting sonic 2 for its LEVEL DESIGN not physics. But the physics are an upgrade too.

But anyway lets stop this "drama thing" that's going on please.
(And please read over posts AT LEAST 2 times.)

(Edit: I was saying that sonic 1 was a bit jank with its level design because I don't think the devs making the game really new how to structure levels yet. sonic 2 and 3 fixed that.)

(im not saying that sonic 1 is bad)

thats something to agree with, only on the 1992 port that is.
Well, I just hate the Sonic 2 Special stages in general.
I don't like how I can't really see anything coming my way (even in the Origins version.), and I wish making Tails fly while playing as Sonic and Tails was easier.

Then again, I might just have a skill issue. So who knows.

some of my 2D favorites are.

Sonic CD (Original & RDSK)
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (RDSK)
Sonic The Hedgehog (Game Gear & RDSK)

I think all of them are great games (yes that includes 3d blast and labrynth)
But I think Sonic The Hedgehog, the original, isn't appreciated enough. Sega managed to create such a complex game that only had one action button. Yeah, it's true that Sega was still figuring stuff out with Sonic, but the level design of all the stages in Sonic 1 are very underrated, minus Labrynth Zone, of course.
But Sonic CD Solos with the animated Cutscenes ALONE
