How have you configured the controls? I use the directional arrows...for diretion, ring sling is A, dash is S, jump is D, strafe left is SHIFT, and strafe right is SPACE BAR, look up, PG. UP, look down, PG DN.

What do you guys use for these controls? I'm looking for a better button config, so I can reach all of these controls easily. Right now I can't comfertable reach the look up and down buttons.

Use the mouse, and put always mouselook in the mouse options section. It will greatly improve your odds of winning a match, or capture the flag. I use left mouse button for jumping, right mouse button for ringslinger, wheel button for spinning, wheel up for lightdash, and the arrow keys for moving.

I believe that it is impossible to even win a match with the default controls. Now my controls, I binded so many keys, I can get out of any sticky situation easily:
Code:
bind q "toggle chasecam"
bind e "toggle analog"
bind f "toggle cam_rotate 180; cam_speed 0.75"
alias ssready "viewsize 12;crosshair 0;objectplace on;speed 8;chasecam off"
That last line is very, very, very great to make Screenshots of your level.
Apart from those, I have much more, such as my name at startup and I use WASD and the mouse.

I use controls similar to the default, only with ctrl for jump, alt for spindash, and spacebar for lightdash.
As a direct result I suck in match.

Arrow keys and WASD. W being jump, A as spindash, and D being ringslinger or light dash depending on the gametype.

And yes, but we're already going, so why not?

Arrow keys for movement.
Space is jump.
B is ring shoot
V is spindash.
N is regular ring shoot.
I use 3rd person.

Call me crazy, call me whatever you want. But you know what, i've used this exact combonation for two years now, and I own with it and only with it.

The Greatest Control Setting Known to Man, Consisting of The Holy Four, WASD:

W = Forward
S = Backpedal
A = Strafe Left
D = Strafe Right
Mouselook On, Mousemove Off
Left Mouse Button = Jump
Right Mouse Button = Throw Ring
Thumb Mouse Button = Spin

And the gamer held it high and spake, "O bless ye lord, for with The Holy Four I shall aimest with thy blessed mouse and blowest my enemies into tiny bits." And then there was much rejoicing.

Mine are based off of what I used for Jazz 3
up arrow = Forward
Down arrow = Backwards
Left Arrow = Strafe Left
Right Arrow = Strafe Right
Mouselook to turn and look
Left Mouse Button = Throw Ring
Right Mouse Button = Jump
Ctrl = Spin/spindash
Talk = T
Snapshot = G

Forward - W
Backward - S
Turn left - A/mouselook
Turn right - D/mouselook
Strafe left - Q
Strafe right - E
Jump - Shift
Spin - Z
Lightdash - X
Mouselook - Right mouse button
Ring throw - Left mouse button/ctrl
Normal ring throw - Caps Lock
Talk key - Space bar

Arrow keys for moving, spacebar for jumping, Z for spindash, X for ringslinger, C for normal ringsling and B for lightdash.

These are the control settings I use for SRB2:

UP - Up arrow key.
DOWN - Down arrow key.
LEFT - Left arrow key.
RIGHT - Right arrow key.
JUMP - Space bar.
SPIN - Ctrl key.
LIGHTDASH - Shift key.
RINGTOSS - Alt key.
RINGTOSS NORMAL - Unused.
CAMERA LEFT/RIGHT - Default.
RESET CAMERA - Default.
CENTER CAMERA - C
STRAFE - Default.
LOOK UP/ DOWN - Default.
Talk key - Default.
MOUSELOOK - Unused.
STRAFE ON - Unused.

I don't see how people can play without strafing and mouselook. It's downright impossible

Here is mine!

Up- Up arrow

Down- Down arrow

Right- Right arrow

Left- Left arrow

Jump- Spacebar

Spindash/spin- B

Ringthrow- V

Lightdash/Throwflag- C

Normalringthrow- N

Everything else is pretty much default.

W = Forward
S = Backward
A = Strafe Left
D = Strafe Right
Left Mouse = Jump
Right Mouse = Spin
Q = Lightdash
Space = Ring Slinger (E for normal)
F = Hold for Mouselook (having mouselook always on seems a bit unnatural in SRB2 for some reason, maybe because I use Software Rendering)
T = Talk
C = Reset Camera
~ = Console
1 = Taunt
2 = Screenshot
3 = Addbot (for SRB2JTE)

I use the controls supplied with my trusty Genesis emulator. D is jump, S is spin, A is lightdash, shift is fire normal, and CTRL is shoot rings/addons.

For me, I can't see how people actually do play with them. Yes, i've tried 1st person WASD with mouse look, and I find it very annoying. Regardless, I still do well using my own methods, so where exactly is the problem here?

Mouselook = On
LMB = Fire
RMB = Jump
Side Button 1 = Forward
Side Button 2 = Backward (Atleast, I would if SRB2 worked with a 5 button mouse properly)
Wheel Up = Spindash (Only used for getting under low stuff)
Wheel Press = Ring Toss Normal
Wheel Down = Lightdash/Toss Flag

I use that for race too with Chasecam off (I play a lot of ringtoss races)

Single Player and Coop (Ugh) I use Arrow keys and Space for Jump, Control for Spindash

Arrow keys for movement
Alt = Strafe mode on (I use the mouse to strafe mostly)
. = Jump
/ = Spin
l = Ring throw
: = Ring throw (Normal)
' = Lightdash/Throw flag
Backspace = Talk
~ = Console
1 = Pause
2 = Switching bettween 1st person and 3rd person mode
3 = 3D screenshot (Something I made myself)
0 = return to Default settings for my caracter
o = Rotate camera left
p = Rotate camera right
k = Taunt

I use my mouse for movement too sometimes...

Mouse1 (left click) = Jump
Mouse2 (right click) = Ring throw (Normal)
Mouse3 (Pressing the mousewheel down) = Strafe mode, AND Mouselook
