Oh, now we're playing dirty. But I am not buying this game till...
WE GETS BLACK EYED SONIC

Found this image on the SB, SO TRUE.

Just gonna nick this off of FN's post on SSMB so people don't go "baw old" when someone brings it up five days from now. We've got some more concept art, it appears to be a fish.

It looks more inspired by Sonic 2's fish than Sonic 1. Some attentive folks at the message boards have noticed that it actually seems to be a hybrid between Sonic 2 and Sonic 1.

Two dorsal fins, the placement of the pectoral fin, and the use of steel fins all around, and the flat edged tailfin are inspired by the first one. It bears more in common with the second one but the entire face is a separate piece with the eye fitting in between that and the body.

My guess is that it jumps aimlessly from waterfalls below bridges like both of its predecessors. Although if it became more intelligent like the Motobug does, maybe it will wait for you and THEN jump, wouldn't that be annoying? XD

Fingers crossed for the Caterkiller... that thing's a classic. Even more so than (giant enemy) crabmeat and the buzzbomber in my humble opinion.

The design and colors scheme reminds me of the Egg Fleet ship design.

Fake. It's a composite picture completely unrelated to the actual game. Christ, you can't go 3 hours without making an embarrasment of yourself, can you?

Besides, not like one booster is going to make a difference in the scheme of the entire level.

That's Greg for ya.

Yeah, I liked your picture. This game needs Sally Acorn and I will buy it!

Well... It seems you truly believe SEGA listened to us.

Well then... What is THIS?

<image>

I repeat: What is THIS?

You overreacting, further proving my point, and making a bigger fool out of yourself. And of course, you do nothing to try and counter my statements or challenge my argument.

Proof that sixteen years has not rendered them any more skill in producing mockups. The placement in the picture looks random, it doesn't look like an action shot, and the perspective seems off, the level design in the background doesn't look right, and there's not enough weight in the front and middle layer to offset the (rather beautifully done) detailed back layer, leaving an imbalanced sense of depth. Honestly, this looks no better than the mockups of Sonic X-treme.

Also, SEGA listening to us doesn't guarantee us a good game (ignoring the multitude of "because fanbase is babies" arguments I like to put here), because even with the best suggestions and advice, you can still make a few poor design decisions that are going to cause the product to be less perfect. Doesn't mean it'll be a deal-breaker, but it does mean that in terms of quality it probably won't hit its stride until episode 3. (imo, the Half-Life series hit its stride in episode 1... Tales of Monkey Island hit its stride in episode 3, with episode 4 being the best of the bunch... Metroid hit its stride with its third outing, same with Zelda, same with Sonic... do I really need to go on?)

EDIT: Also I do think that some sonic fans need to cool it for a bit. If the game bombs and you don't buy it, then you don't have anything less than what you have now... and don't say the tired "I'll lose faith in Sonic" phrase. You've already lost your faith in him and that's why you're being (justifiably) skeptical, you're still not losing anything.

Come on, let's not do that...

I'm personally as frustrated with Sonic Team as any of you guys are. Sonic '06 and Sonic Genesis were simply bad games, with little redeming value. But I thought that the Team had learned their lesson by the time that Sonic Unleashed came about. That game was well-constructed, plays well, and most importantly, was a fun experience (and I do personally include the nighttime stages in that definition). Sonic Team really did clean up much of their act with that title...

...So naturally, I think we'll all be interested in how Sonic 4 holds up. This will be Sonic Team's first wholly 2D outing in over 15 years, assuming that this game hasn't been farmed out to Dimps (which, by the way, I would not oppose) or Backbone. And this is the first time Sonic Team has attempted such a feat without any of its major Genesis-era staff on board (Naoto Oshima, Hirokazu Yasuhara, and Yuji Naka). It'll be interesting to see how the current Sonic Team interprets the Genesis-style gameplay, level design, ect., that they seem so bent on emulating in this new title.

tl;dr: I haven't completely lost hope in Sonic Team to make this game good, but I am more than a little wary.

Meh. Boosters are all right, if they're used sparingly, but if you use too many, you end up getting Sonic Advance 2, and that's something nobody wants to experience again. D:

Speaking of which, I hope that even if this doesn't play like Sonic 4, they'll take a few pointers from Sonic Advance 1, at least. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nGvLuH9RkI&feature=related Even if it wasn't very original at all, it had Genesis-style physics, level design with lots of secrets and alternate paths, dialogue-less cutscenes, and didn't introduce any new characters.

Basically, it's the closest thing Sega made to Sonic 4 until now.

I have a question to everyone complaining about Sonic's eyes... Why now? Why did no one complain when they were changed in the first place? Also, anyone else want Scratch and Grounder?

Actually, Sonic Advance 1 shows that you can make a great game even with an ugly Sonic model.

First post in months here, and going back over the last several pages, I can safely say that I am quite happy I dropped out of the fanbase.

Unless posting here drags me back in.

But really, who needs constant updates for Sonic 4 when all the fanboys complaining about eye color is good enough? Be damned patient and wait till the game actually comes out (or if that isn't good enough for you, till more than 3 seconds of gameplay is uploaded/leaked) before complaining about it being a complete failure.

And besides, aren't most of the nostalgia fans adults who really need to start doing more productive and better things with their lives than hang around a quivering children's franchise? *coughrichardkutacough*

Alright. That's it. This isn't Sonic 4. This is New Sonic the Hedgehog. A Masher/Jaws? Yeah, I like him, but if anyone remembers the classics didn't use the same robots all the time. There was always a new series of Badniks and a few built upon (Orbinaut).

Now that I think about... It's fufilling another request by fans! You all said to stop adding characters so they reused badniks!

If this is a sequel to anything it's to Sonic Pocket Adventure.
That game was even closer to Sonic 4 then advance...

Also, the new look makes more sense when you think about... I mean how could a creature that spends most of his time running be so fat?(strangly I never thought about it until my friend who is not a fan pointed it out...)
