Movies you would Recommend

I spot some spoilers ahead.

Blade Runner- A+

Man, this film is brilliant. The imagery was certainly amazing for its time, the music is hauntingly funky and futuristic, but the plot is the best part. The plot actually invokes thought after watching it. I mean, the hero was killing off Replicants, but that in itself proved that he was also killing innocent things. The death of Roy invoked both terror and complete depression. He himself was trying to kill the protagonist (who's an antagonist in himself if you really think about it), yet caused me to be teary eyed because he wanted to survive and it wasn't fair that robots in the most scarily realistic of human form were slaves to do the work of humans, then be executed. Him just sitting there by the protagonist as he says his last words really got me.

It's incredible. Do Robots Dream of Electric Sheep, indeed.

The Fifth Element- A

Oh god... This movie is absolutely nuts. You've got a soldier from the military going on vacation in a hotel cruise in a futuristic world where their host is some crazy as hell tv show host of sorts, as the protagonist is trying to help the priest secure the Fifth Element in her human form to a temple so that they could align them together and defeat the incarnation of all evil, Mr. Shadow... Oh, plus he has a lackey called Zorg who has a bunch of alien dudes called Megalonians after the Elements as well as an alien singer who has the elements on board of said hotel and has one of the elements inside of her, thus making her death worthwhile.

Absolutely nuts, but absolutely awesome. Bruce Willis made the movie an action packed thrill ride, indeed.

Princess and the Frog- A+

It was everything the Lion King was to Disney in the 90s. Absolutely awesome, actually funny, the bad guys were really freaking creepy.... Consider myself a very pleased person.

Punch Joins 'Earthbound'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucy Punch has been cast in Earthbound, which begins shooting this month in Louisiana.

Nicole Kassell is directing a screenplay by Gren Wells about a woman (Kate Hudson) who learns she has been stricken with cancer before meeting a new guy (Gael Garcia Bernal).

Punch will play the woman's best friend and advertising agency co-worker.

EDIT: False alarm. Apparently, from what the guys are telling me, it's not the game Earthbound. UGH, that's... kind of disappointing to be honest. Then again, at least that's one game away from the EVIL hands of Hollywood.

EDIT 2: WAIT! That piece of crap summary is that Earthbound's plot? Talk about lame.

One film that any fan of animation should see is The Triplets of Belleville, if only for the art. The wildly caricaturized characters (the most memorable of whom are imposing wall-like henchmen and a coil-inspired waiter) and the colorful, detailed, yet loosely-drawn settings are something to look at. Sight gags abound. The story itself is so bizzare that it easily gives Pixar's Up a run for its money in terms of sheer creativity. I'll let you guys experience it for yourselves.

Yet, the film does suffer from one serious fault. Though many characters are wonderfully expressive (and need to be, as the film contains almost no spoken diologue), the pivotal Champion is robotic and fairly unrelatable, perhaps due to his almost religious devotion towards his one great passion. In spite of all his efforts and hardships (as well as those endured by his loved ones), he never once indicates that he is vulnerable enough to allow the audience to grant him some well-deserved sympathy. However, one could counter that Champion's unwavering resolve is exactly what makes him a champion, and that The Triplets of Belleville is really the story of those who care about him. Either way, The Triplets of Belleville is a fine piece of work, earning an A-.

Avatar - A+

Absolutely AMAZING!
I really didn't know much about this film, and the general hype was pretty huge from what I've seen. I went to see it last week and it was awesome. It's story was phenomenal, along with the CGI Graphics and Dialogue.

I loved it.

So my family goes to the big city to have some fun and watch a movie at the dollar theatre.

Out of the options, I gravitated most to Princess and the Frog and dismissed Planet 51 and any other garbage from the options.

BUT, my mom wants to see the worst of them at the theatre. They don't want to see a movie that me and my sister already watchede but rather a movie none of us have seen and for good reason...

However, my mother convinced my sister to watch it, and dragged me along.

That movie.... Was Twilight: New Moon.

And goddamn, my senses and perception of two of my favorite movie monsters has been raped.

Sad thing is that everyone except me liked it. Even my own father liked it..... Ughhhh. I guess teenage drama BS is entertaining to them. I mean the movie DRAGGED...... For MUCH TOO LONG. And even the action was terrible. That petty excuse for a vampire, Eddie, didnt even fight back against the guy who tried to kill him in the council...... And in the beginning of the film, he tried to protect Bella from his family because she got a paper cut from her present. So he throws her at a table.... WITH GLASS. I mean.... Seriously? What the hell? And throughout most of the film it was all about the kids working out relationships, talking (with the obligatory use of words and phrases such as "like", "you know?", and any other thing I possibly missed), and a group of werewolves who wear nothing but short pants. Oh and did mention that Edward is a pathetic excuse of a vampire?

Stephanie Meyer.... Why do you torture us with such a terrible franchise?

Yeah, I refuse to call these guys vampires and werewolves. If they hadn't called them that, this would've been a C rated film. But no.... They tried to pass off these schmos as the two greatest movie monsters of all time.

I will from now on call Edward a Glampire.

And with that, I give this movie an F. There was hardly even a plot to it. Throughout the whole thing I was confused.... Whilst paying attention to it. I tried... I really tried to find a hint of logic in there, but it failed on so many levels.

And so an F is my final grade. Now that I've actually watched it I will not give the franchise another chance. This crap needs to be pulled from the film industry and condemned to hell.

Greg, while I don't doubt that Twilight: New Moon was a poorly constructed movie (although that I can't say for sure, having never seen the movie), just remember that you're not a member of its target audience. Pre-teen/teen/whatever girls probably relate better to it because it caters more to their particular group. It's kind of telling that the females in your group enjoyed it and you did not.

Let me also ask if you were aware of the basic Twilight back story beforehand. I'm not acquainted with it in the least, so I imagine my viewing pleasure would be hampered as I attempted to get to know the characters and their situations. You could argue, though, that a good movie adaptation would allow the viewer to enjoy him/herself whether or not they know the source material.

I happen to enjoy the Sonic the Hedgehog OVA. It's beautifully animated (at least in comparison to other Sonic animations) and reflects the in-game universe without becoming too familiar and stale. But screen the same movie to your typical Twilight: New Moon aficionado, and they'll likely have no idea what the hell is going on. Even if they did, they probably wouldn't care. See what I mean?

Avatar is a C from me. The special effects were quite amazing, but eye candy doesn't necessarily make a film good to this movie-goer (see: Transformers 2). The story was decent, but the dialogue was laughably bad and the characters were leaving something to be greatly desired. Whenever something bad would happen to a character, I didn't really have any clue whether I should feel sorry for that person or not.

And let's not forget that the film was horribly Anvilicious.

Twilight is simply amazing, best movie of the year. Right Greg?
I hate it too, but for whatever reason. I feel like I need to stand up for it.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. But when I said the movie sucked and my very own father said "HEY! It was a good movie" my world shattered. My perception of my own father shattered. I used to think he was this really cool guy who played the bass, was in a band, could draw really cool stuff, and would be famous in the industry one day. When he expressed his liking for such a terrible movie I just felt disappointed.

I mean... I was very much hurt with that. My own father was defending the movie.

Could you possibly imagine how that feels?

Here you go again with your limited capacity of opinions, those being "I REALLY REALLY LIKE THIS" and "I REALLY REALLY HATE THIS."

Ouch, that was a bite in the butt. O_o

Isn't there a third movie coming out?

A few things that bugged me about Avatar that my brother pointed out to me:

At the beginning the army guy said that the Na'vi had reinforced bones, and were extremely hard to kill etc., but later in the movie they die just like normal people would, from a single bullet or two.

The army guy at the beginning seems like a pretty intelligent character (never underestimate your opponent, don't just blindly fight, etc.) It seems he loses that mindset completely by the end of the movie.

Valentines Day was a pretty good comedy, went to see it today with some friends. I'd give it a B+. Lots of unexpected twists, not predictable like your average romantic comedy. Throughout the film we were casually pairing up who would end up with who at the end, only 2 or 3 of these were right out of about 9 though, since most of them took an unexpected turn. I liked the way every story linked in with the others too.


Apparently it beat Avatar as well...

It was absolutely amazing~

So I just watched the movie Alice in the wonderland and I actuatly really loved it. The end was unexpected to me. I suggest you to watch it. Really good 3d movie.

Was originally going to see it this Sunday, but it was rescheduled due to someone not being able to see it.

Looking forward to it though.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief--A+
This movie was a fantastic rendition of the book. 90% of the time, the movie did a great job of including all the most relevant plot points. The Lotus Casino scene was EPIC, and arguably truer to the original Greek myths than the book was. My only two real problems with the movie is (a) for some reason, they left out everything about the Mist, and (b) they cut out all the stuff at the end that leads into the second book.

A movie can still have problems and have a perfect score? :P
But to be honest, it didn't make the movie worse.

The greatest films of all time have their issues, but are still worthy of a 10/10. There's no such thing as a perfect film. Just ones that come very close. Speaking of which, has anybody here seen Apocalypse Now?

I found Avatar overrated.. anyone else agree?
