I did not enjoy this level pack.
I can respect the amount of time and effort that went into the whole piece, and the many people behind it (barring the ai voice acting, as made through 15.ai and pointed out in the credits. That's something that has aged only worse with time, and I feel helped make for some of the more confusing mixed audio in parts of the pack), but I do not feel it made for a perfectly cognizant or fun playing experience. The level design is awkward and jumbled, rings will be splayed out awkwardly and not even in straight lines when they should be in areas, some hazards poorly done out, but any of my quibbles fail to compare to how unenjoyable I found the final level, RUN.
It feels like it's trying to draw influence from the Adventure games, but I do not seriously feel this game engine is perfectly adapted for a high speed character can not stay still platforming sequence, especially when accompanied with an omnipresent swarm of hitscanning turrets along every single inch of the levels length. Add in janky hitboxes for the abruptly sudden custom enemies, speed boosts for a ball sequence that quickly lose all momentum when you try and dodge and weave around the cars it throws at you, and most severely of all for my system (a Lenovo Gaming Laptop), intense screen tearing and lag during one sequence, and what I would have found to be a enjoyable experience came to a crawl of just awkward sections where I kept dying and dying again due to wonky checkpoint placement, and an inability to regain coins without instantly losing them and then dying.
I recognize this is coming on 3 years later, so I do not seriously expect nor demand severe overhauls to the level design or elements of it (aside from wishing the ai voice acting was removed, because Come On), but neither will I give it a load off with the fact that it is an earlier venture. Angel Island Tour was a map pack I really enjoyed - this made me feel ill with the screen splaying off into infinity during a section of its final level, consistently.
