I got a chance to play both the Wii-u and 3DS versions of Lost Worlds at Summer of Sonic. And what do you know, I actually had fun.

I played Windy Hill 1 on the Wii-U version, and had a blast exploring the level. Lo and behold there's actually some decent exploration to be had in a modern Sonic game. If you were to just go fast through the level you would only see about a third of the content in the level.

The 3DS version was okay, the core mechanics were the same and handled better than I expected it would. But the level design was less stellar and not as intuitive thanks to the areas where the player is expected to destroy all of the enemies and the larger enemies that take longer to defeat.

Also there was a new gameplay trailer at SoS, and someone finally uploaded it in a respectable quality.

Shows some more of that 2D Desert Ruins level shown in the Summer of Sonic trailer, Eggman and his two robots Orbot and Cubot were shown, the reason why you are fighting the Badniks was shown, and an explanation for the gadgets and how they work is also in the video.

EDIT:: A snippet of a cutscene here:

There is only the Japanese version for right now.

Lost World's really peaked my interest at this point. The parkour system and tiered running looks like an awesome fit for Sonic, and the levels seem well-designed. I feel like I should remain cautiously optimistic for now, but I see myself buying this the moment I can burn money on a WiiU.

I shouldn't try my luck here, but seeing as I found 3 or 4 bonus edition Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed for the PSVita lying around I may be able to get the bonus edition for this game the same way... assuming I get a WiiU...

I really wished that they would release a demo in the e_shop. The only time demos can be played are at mostly unreachable places like E3, or whatever gamescon is way too far away for people not in the state to be able to attend.

It's a demo and it plays, at this point it really should be available to download now, in my opinion.

Someone posted up some footage of Tropical Coast from the TGS stream:

To summarize:

The game has an interconnected World Map and it looks as if there are 4 main Zones to go through before reaching another segment. Zone 3 is the underwater base level shown in one of the previous trailers. The map also seems to have unlockable paths. My question is will it be a similar size to the depiction of Lost Hex in the teaser image and the opening or a smaller scale?

Tropical Coast Zone 1 looks like it will have quite a bit of places to explore and interesting things going on. Half of the 360 tube design is water that you would have to use the Drill Wisp to access and once that runs out you go back on the land again. There does not seem to be an indicator of some way to stay underwater longer with the Drill Wisp in the video, but it looks like the sections will either be for Red Rings or to bypass areas to me. There is a Badnik you can roll inside of that can also destroy enemies, but it has yet to be seen how far will you be able to go through the stage until it self-destructs.

I am hoping to see full underwater platforming in 3D, it is possible with this gameplay style. Zone 4 looks like it could be that specific type of level but that has yet to be seen.

Is it me or did I just see Sonic going from climbing up a wall to start wall-running?

Also Homing Attack looks too inconvenient for me.
