The most recent Sonic BGM I've been listening to is that one track from Sonic Lost World where there are fruits everywhere and stuff. Sorry for not being really specific lol.
 
I really like listening to both versions of Rusty Ruins Zone from Sonic 3D Blast and Stardust Speedway's Good Future (JP) from Sonic CD. Coming from my more modern songs is Misty Lake from Sonic and the Black Knight and Sea Bottom Segue from Lost World.

...fits the bill for me too. I actually adore that entire soundtrack, but I really like the piano-led, string-and-choir-backed pieces that compose Rusty Ruins. That reverb is something amazing.
(I'm also partial to the official theme of SonicGAF but it's more of an ironic thing)

As for songs... I'm not really a fan of the Sonic series' attempts at lyrical tracks, although I do like "Sonic Boom", "His World", "You Can Do Anything", "Cosmic Eternity" and pretty much all of Sonic R's soundtrack. Fortunately, early Sonic games have more than their fair share of actual licensed music by professional singers that I can point to instead.

It's similar but not exact; the chord progression is only the same for the first three bars before Ice Cap tangents into its own thing. The Jetsonz has it almost 1:1 down to the bassline, with a slightly altered melody and more percussion.
 
@knux576: someone made an extended version of terminal velocity act 2 based off the one from gameland, and it sounds incredibly similar to the original thing.
 
There is one problem with this......
I LIKE ALL SONGS from the Sonic series!
I'll just put a top 5 list:
1. Live and Learn - Full Version (Mainly because of Sonic: Nazo Unleashed)
2. Escape from the City - City Escape theme
3. Knight of the Wind
4. Terminal Velocity
5. Race to Win


These are the ones that I enjoy the most.
 
I love Oil Ocean Zone's music. I don't know why no one likes it. :'(
 
As much as I love the Zebrahead Remix of "His World"...

I have to go with Good Old Ice Cap Zone, for being the most high energy and head-bopping ice level music ever composed.

Ah good, I am glad I am not the only one that likes this music.

As far as favorites? I don't know if I have a particular favorite really.
