Sonic Generations

I was thinking of getting it for the PC since I don't own a PS3/360. I can run it, but I don't know if it's worth the strain on my laptop to get it. I may opt to getting the 3DS version and play the console version my cousin is likely (hopefully) to get.

Actually, in most cases, if you have the choice, the PC version is always the way to go. Cheaper titles, higher resolutions, higher framerates, better image quality (more AA and AF choices), superior control variety (in the rare case mouse-and-keyboard isn't superior, you always have the option of using gamepads, including the Xbox 360's or PS3's), potential mod-ability of the games in question, etc etc.

The thing that has people worried in this case is the high system requirements (for which mine handily sails past Recommended) and the relatively unknown company doing the port job (although they ported Virtua Tennis 4, too, which turned out okay). I'll be able to tell you how well-founded those fears are come Friday.

I'd get the PC version if I could. At 30 dollars, that is a steal! I don't know why you wouldn't want to get it for PC if you have a PC powerful enough to run it. Hey, it even has two free Classic games with it.

That's exactly my point though. The specs for this game are so ridiculous that it's just a safer option to get a console version. Otherwise, you're pretty much right, unless we're talking shitty console ports.

And besides, at least you get a physical copy if you buy a console version, plus there's the option of the special edition.

Gamestop opens at 10AM, but I went in at 9:52AM and I was still allowed in. So it seems I'm the first here who managed to buy the game.

Now brb, playing Sonic Generations on my PS3.

Wow, awesome, can you let us know your first impressions? Also, to me it seemed like the game would be pretty short, judging from the lengths of some of the acts. Once you play a bit more could you confirm/deny this?

There are less levels than, say, Colors. 18 in all, not counting bosses or missions. However, they do tend to be longer, and, I will admit, more interesting than the ones in Colors. Besides that, you've also got either 5 or 10 (not sure, PROBABLY 5) missions per zone, plus red rings, S-ranks, and collectibles and such.

...Also why is this game not in my mailbox yet argh

I give this game 0/10 for not being Sonic 1. It's shit, go play something else.[/beingashitbag]

Man I was hoping someone to have beaten it already or something, I really want to know if this game is any good. :<

Sonic Colors usually had 2 or 3 larger levels on each planet, which I considered analogous to full-sized levels, while the remaining ones were shorter and usually centered around one or a few gimmicks (spinning platforms or cube puzzles or what-have-you).

I see roughly the same set-up in Generations, in that there are two "long" levels in each zone and then a slew of tiny, gimmicky missions, which usually change the navigable level structure somewhat. So if you count them as separate levels, Sonic Generations is actually almost three times as large as Generations (there are 108 levels overall, not counting bosses or Casino Night).

I think I would have preferred having longer levels overall that are built with multiple missions in mind (kind of like Super Mario 64's stages), which would encourage exploration. I disliked Sonic Color's smaller levels in that, with a few exceptions, they didn't mix gimmicks or Wisp powers very well, which seems to have put a cap on how creative its level design could be. From watching various videos on YouTube, Sonic Generation's missions don't seem to differ much from what I just described.

I just beat Sonic Generations a little while ago and it was fun. It seemed a little on the short side but whatever. Just wished there where more cutscenes in the game. Overall buy it, you'll have fun. Now I just need to wait for Generations on the 3DS to come out.

Guys, GUYS, guys. I just got Sonic Generations Collector's Edition.A DAY EARLY.

I just unboxed it and everything looks awesome and definitely worth it. I have a shit load of pictures I'm uploading of all the little things in the Collector's Edition. I'll upload them shortly.

I think I'm one of the first people to get the Collector's Edition in the world. Which is awesome.

Just give it a while and I'll upload some pictures.

Edit: Here's the gallery, can't be bothered posting the pictures individually, too bust playing.

Could you get a shot of the figurine from the front? I haven't been able to see that yet. It's always a somewhat top-down view.

I'll try to get one soon, in fact, the figurines (aaa, spelling) are removable from the stand so I can do those separately.

Edit: Scratch that, these things are terribly unbalanced, so separately is impossible. I also appear to be having a lot of trouble with uploading the front pic, so this may take a while.

Some of the level design (mostly Modern) is really irking me. The abundance of death/bottomless pits isn't what I exactly call challenge.

Classic is REALLY fun though! Sure it may have some "wtf" moments, but this is probably some of the best gameplay since Sonic3&K.
