To get into "Safe-Mode":
1) Restart your computer.
2) Before the Windows loading screen comes up, hit the "F8" key a couple of times until you see a menu.
3) Select "Safe Mode" by highlighting it and press enter.
What this mode does is that its designed for troubleshooting hardware and software that made it so Windows doesn't boot up correctly. It only loads the basic drivers, so your screen will be in 640 x 480, no sound card installed, basic graphic card drivers, etc.
This is the reason that you need to be in this mode. Now the ads, spyware, worms, etc isn't trying to load and run thus making you able to delete the files because they are not loaded by Windows.
