I actually really like this, I tried with with Reveries physics mod and this made me realise that the thok honestly isn't needed as long as you have good physics that provides you with great control over sonic. It also makes the game feel more immersive since I have to pay more attention to where I am jumping as a result.
I would recommend anyone to at least try this out, you would be surprised at how this changes the game.
