Great homing attack and animation! If you wish SRB2 felt a bit more like one of those "Sega hire this man" games, this is the mod for you!

You can really tell that the person who made this has played and gotten good at a lot of Sonic games. Neo Sonic is chock full of the same type of appeal that every Sonic game strives for, especially the classic ones. Every time I bumble into an enemy or awkwardly stumble around a wall that I so clumsily launched myself face-first into, it hurts in an invigorating way, because I know that there's so much more potential. I can just feel the speed, the flow I could achieve if I could only get good. Good's in high supply these days, but if I put in the work, I can tell it'll be well worth it.

You can also tell that the person who made this is an indie game dev from the copious amounts of squash and stretch. As a hobbyist game dev myself, I've never understood the appeal of that procedural squash and stretch that so many indie games do...

This is honestly not only my favorite sonic to use on this site but my favorite character overall, not only is momentum well implemented but he really gives a sense of speed and fluidity. The only thing I could hope for more with this mod is a super form

Lol, flattened Sonic, i like that.

My favorite Sonic on the site, hands down. Straddles the line between Classic and Modern wonderfully.

@SRB2SuperSonic review I quote:

"This is a fun mod to use, but there's a lot I have to say about it. And not much of it is nice. First off, I like how fast he goes, but he's a little too fast in my opinion. Second, his moveset can be expanded to include more modern abilities like the Light Dash and Bounce Bracelet and even the sweep kick from Sonic 06. Also, this is probably the first modded Sonic in SRB2 to not include a Super form. If you can implement that, it'd be appreciated a little more. Also, there's either incompatibility with BuddyEX, or I just don't know how to spawn a Neo Sonic bot. I hope this gets looked over and some of these changes I mention actually happen. Thank you."

1. He does have compatibility with BuddyEX. His spawn code is "addbot msonic color", and if you don't know Greeneyes, it's "addbot greeneyesonic color", with Modern Sonic being "addbot modernsonic color".
2. Yeah I agree, he could use a bit more moves, with (most of) them being the ones you suggested. I'm not criticizing him, but still. I only suggest a few extras: Super Peelout, some sort of combat like ability, and a double jump.

Now on to my actual review: He's very nice to control, albeit being slipperier and heavier, I would like it a bit more if he was less slippery and heavy, but if that's the point, that's cool. Also, he feels a bit more empty since you removed shield abilities being stacked with the Dropdash. Adding them back would be nice. But criticizing aside, He's a very good character, almost like SonicRE (with Bounce Attack replaced with Dropdash), but not nearly as complex to control as say, oh I don't know, GREENEYES? But still, this is astounding, and I give it a 10.5 out of 10.

An excellently drawn Sonic with an actually good and fun Homing Attack, but not overcomplicated by needing additional buttons beyond jump and spin. Simple excellence.

My favorite take on a Modern Sonic moveset. NIcely done!

After completing a handful of levels with it, I am going to leave this review, first of all ... Let's start with what I liked.

His sprites are a clear 15/10, it feels SO good to play with him and watch him run at breakneck speeds, they are one of the most eye-catching sprites I saw in SRB2
His homing attack is intuitive, but difficult to master, which I love, I also really like the fact of sacrificing speed to go higher and vice versa
The special effects it has are very nice to see, like when you break the sound barrier for example, it is TOO satisfying
Your spindash is quite good, it is OP but at the same time it takes more time to load, nice touch!
... Now the things that were not very to my liking,
The trail that you leave when you run in Boost mode, distracts the eye a bit when trying to see where you need to go, maybe making them smaller or a little more separated is a good solution.
His dropdash ... It's weird, I don't know how to explain it, but maybe I get used to Pointy's a lot, but that's not a problem!
the boost mode is something difficult to maintain for a long period, and I don't think they are my reflexes because I play with SMS almost all the time and I have good records
The last thing is that you can not break the spikes if you are in Boost mode and rolling at the same time, neither in turbo mode and jumping, but that I do not think is a problem very of the character, but more me that I get used to breaking it in monstrous ways with HMS

I'm going to give 5 stars, stellar work to those who made this character! There are some nipticks that can be fixed with some time, but I'm having a LOT of fun with this Add-on

What you see is what you get. Just a guy that loves adventure.

Feels very good to control, feels like i'm playing sonic frontiers or at least a beta version of it, Drop dash feels rewarding and overall a great character.
Unfortunately sometimes when i spindash up a slope it feels like Neo is glued to the ground so there's that. Overall 9/10 character

(Review for Neo v2.2, opinion obviously subject to change)

Neo is a very fun character, and a majority of his visuals are an absolute treat to look at.

The custom homing attack goes wonderfully with his kit, and gives him something unique among all the other homing attacks. It also feels significantly more satisfying to use than most of them, as well (at least for me.) It also works pretty nicely with his dropdash since his "powerspring" lets him use it after significant air time and allows him to get right back to moving.

Dash mode is a nice touch, but unfortunately feels a bit tacked on in it's current state. If it were given aerial preservation (ala XMom/Alt Sonic, or Sonic Advance 2) and slightly better spike breaking (Neo kinda gets stuck on spikes sometimes) it would be perfect, though.

The new Turbulence gates are a pretty neat mechanic, but the visuals are just a tad too obtrusive for me. In some netgames it's even gotten so bad that people behind me actually can't see in front of them with how many gates are blocking their view.

To briefly mention, I adore the squash and stretch used here. However, sometimes it's a bit too much (jumping off of high ledges or hitting some death pits turns him into jelly upon impact.)

7 Emeralds collected within the vanilla game. Overall he's pretty solid, and I can sincerely recommend giving him a shot.

It's very good, amazing sprites, well made moves. I just feel like it should have more abilities.

I love this, but I have a suggestion.

Rebind the key used in midair for dropdash to custom 1, so Neo can use shield abilities AND maybe even have a super form. Just a suggestion, but it would definitely be cool.

Wonderful experience as usual!

The only thing is, Turbulence's dust spawns below any FOFs you're running on.
