[Character] The Brash Buster Character Pack (v5.0: Flandre, Paratroopa, shading fixes, and more)

attachment.php

Hi there. This is just a collection of characters I've made, which I've been able to split into three categories:

Characters
attachment.php

Various bosses from the Mega Man series, be they old creations from 200X or newer models from 20XX.

Block Man (Mega Man 11)
DWN-081. A construction robot built by Nakaume Heavy Machinery, he was one of eight Robot Masters stolen and reprogrammed by Dr. Albert Wily with the experimental Double Gear system. Block Man was one of four robots equipped with the Power Gear, which allowed him to boost the power of his attacks.
Block Man's Speed and Acceleration are rather average, but his sturdy brick body gives him a rock-solid Weight stat at the cost of poor Handling.

Speed: 6
Weight: 8
Balanced-Heavyweight

Voice is from Mega Man 11 (Marc Swint).

Cut Man (Mega Man)
DLN-003. A timberfelling robot built by Dr. Thomas Light, Cut Man, along with five of his brothers, was reprogrammed by Dr. Wily as part of the mad scientist's first world domination scheme.
Cut Man is an overall average racer. His Weight and Handling are cut down the middle, though his Speed is slightly sharper than his Acceleration.

Speed: 6
Weight: 5
Balanced-Middleweight

Voice is from Mega Man Powered Up (Elinor Holt).

Top Man (Mega Man 3)
DWN-021. One of seven robots built as a collaborative effort between Dr. Light and Dr. Wily, designed to search for Energy Elements on other planets to power the peacekeeping robot Gamma. He was reprogrammed by Dr. Wily not too long after to suit his own needs.
Top Man is swift and precise, even on the race track. While his great Handling lets him dance around corners with ease, his low Weight makes it easy to sweep him off his feet, and his poor Acceleration ensures that you'll need to watch your step if you want to let loose his amazing Speed.

Speed: 8
Weight: 3
Speed-Lightweight

Uses Young Male 1 Create-A-Soul voice clips from Soulcalibur III (Jay Lerner).

Dust Man (Mega Man 4)
DWN-030. A sanitation robot built by Dr. Mikhail Cossack, he and five of Cossack's other robots were re-purposed for combat when Cossack was forced to help Dr. Wily with world domination.
Already a somewhat bulky robot, Dust Man carries a lot of literal junk with him. This is good for his Weight and Acceleration, but gives him somewhat scrappy Handling and Speed. He's not utter trash, though; with some work, he might just be able to breeze clean through the competition.

Speed: 3
Weight: 7
Acceleration-Heavyweight

Uses edited male Voice 12 clips (M11) from Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (Michael Sinterniklaas).

Heat Man (Mega Man 2)
DWN-015. One of the first eight Robot Masters Dr. Wily built on his own. His design is based on Fire Man, an incineration robot, but Heat Man himself is built only for combat.
Even with his lighter-like armor, Heat Man is one of the...well, lighter Robot Masters. However, despite his looks, he's actually very skilled at charging headfirst into his foes, and he's carried this over into a Speed stat perfect for burning through racers. Just make sure he doesn't crash and burn, because he's not great at picking up the pace.

Speed: 7
Weight: 4
Speed-Middleweight

Uses Sig's alternate voice clips from Puyo Puyo Tetris (Benjamin Diskin).

Napalm Man (Mega Man 5)
DWN-039. A robot built by Dr. Wily to protect his secret weapons factory, and essentially a living arsenal in his own right. On top of being one of many robots to assist Wily in world domination, Napalm Man was also one of ten participants in the Battle & Chase racing show, which some records say he actually won in.
Much like in Battle & Chase, Napalm Man's Acceleration is an absolute blast, but since his old off-roading skills won't work in SRB2Kart, he's packed up some of his weapons for a more middling Weight stat.

Speed: 2
Weight: 6
Acceleration-Middleweight

Uses Young Knight creation voice clips from Soulcalibur V (Kaiji Tang).

Frost Man (Mega Man 8)
DWN-062. A Robot Master built by Dr. Wily out of parts leftover from the stolen amusement park robot Clown Man, and one of eight Robot Masters originally powered by the mysterious Evil Energy. What he lacks in brains (and circulation) he makes up for in brawn.
Being one of the biggest Robot Masters ever built, Frost Man has enough Weight to knock most racers out cold. However, this also leaves him with an abysmal Speed stat, forcing him to use his huge Drift Spark Rate if he wants to slip or slide anywhere.

Speed: 2
Weight: 9
Acceleration-Heavyweight

Voice is from Mega Man 8 (Jack Evans).

Plant Man (Mega Man 6)
DWN-045. A robot originally built by an unknown creator (sometimes said to be scientist Dr. Pedro Astil) for plant management, he was later repurposed for combat for the First Annual Robot Master Tournament. After making it to the finals along with seven other robots, he was reprogrammed by Mr. X for world domination.
Compared to the other tournament finalists, Plant Man is average in Speed, but has a Weight stat that makes him fragile like a flower, but also lets him skillfully creep around corners.

Speed: 5
Weight: 3
Balanced-Lightweight

Uses Schezo's alternate voice clips from Puyo Puyo Tetris (Ben Lepley).

Sheep Man (Mega Man 10)
DWN-077. Originally designed as a sheep herding robot, he later voluntarily switched to a job in the static resistance test division of a circuit board manufacturer. He had considered changing jobs a second time before he went haywire from being infected by the Roboenza virus (being one of the eight most notable victims of the virus).
Sheep Man's Speed and Acceleration are quite close to each other, letting him round up the racers almost as easily as he zips past them. However, his light, fluffy build means that he can't keep himself under control once he's rammed into something.

Speed: 6
Weight: 3
Balanced-Lightweight

Uses edited Male Voice 2 creation voice clips from Soulcalibur IV (Steve Staley).

Characters coming from or close to the magical world of Gensokyo, ranging from youkai, to other mythological creatures, to even just humans with some special tricks up their sleeve.

Kogasa Tatara (Touhou Seirensen ~ Undefined Fantastic Object)
The Cheery Forgotten Umbrella. After being left behind by her owner and ignored by others due to her unpopular color, she came to life with a human body after 100 years. Now, she roams Gensokyo, looking to surprise people, but rarely succeeding.
Like an umbrella, Kogasa is lightweight and easy to send flying. Of course, unlike other umbrellas (which generally aren't alive), she can catch people by surprise and whisk herself wherever she pleases with her great Acceleration.

Speed: 3
Weight: 2
Acceleration-Lightweight

Uses Peppy Female voice clips from Xenoblade Chronicles X (Christina Vee).

Wriggle Nightbug (Touhou Eiyashou ~ Imperishable Night)
A Bug of Light Wriggling in the Dark. Being a firefly youkai with the power to manipulate insects, she takes bugs very seriously, and is offended when someone insults insects. While she is more durable than your typical insect, she's still quite vulnerable to especially hot or cold temperatures.
On the racetrack, Wriggle controls like the firefly that she is. Her Weight is low enough that almost anyone can swat her aside, but her amazing Speed makes her hard to catch.

Speed: 8
Weight: 1
Speed-Lightweight

Uses Girl 1 Create-A-Soul voice clips from Soulcalibur III (Carrie Savage).

Koishi Komeiji (Touhou Chireiden ~ Subterranean Animism)
The Closed Eyes of Love. A satori who had the power to read people's minds, Koishi was unhappy with the fear other people had towards this ability, and decided to close the Third Eye she used to read minds because of this. However, closing her Third Eye also closed her conscious mind, leaving only her ability to act subconsciously.
Living off of impulse, Koishi has a pretty simple stat pool. Her Speed and Acceleration are equal, with her Handling only a little higher than her Weight, making her easy to pick up and play without thinking much more than she does.

Speed: 5
Weight: 4
Balanced-Middleweight

Uses Female Child voice clips from Thrillville: Off the Rails (Lauren Dennis).

Marisa Kirisame (Touhou Fuumaroku ~ the Story of Eastern Wonderland)
Ordinary Magician. Marisa is one of the most recognizable faces in Gensokyo; when an incident forces shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei to take action, Marisa is likely to follow. Marisa's magician status is also unique for Gensokyo; while most magicians there have become youkai through magic, or were even born as youkai, Marisa has made sure being a magician is her occupation, rather than her species.
Marisa is average in Weight, but even outside of her bullet hell adventures, her Speed is still quite remarkable for a human.

Speed: 7
Weight: 5
Speed-Middleweight

Uses Daring Adventurer creation voice clips from Soulcalibur VI.

Remilia Scarlet (Touhou Koumakyou ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil)
The Scarlet Devil. She is the mistress of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and a vampire with the power to manipulate fate. While she tries to put on a sophisticated, menacing appearance, she's actually quite immature, owing to her immortality meaning she can't truly grow up.
As a vampire, Remilia has superhuman Speed, though still being a child in all but age means she's also rather light.

Speed: 8
Weight: 4
Speed-Middleweight

Uses Female Classic voice clips from Xenoblade Chronicles X (Carina Reeves).

Flandre Scarlet (Touhou Koumakyou ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil)
Sister of the Devil. A vampire with an eccentric personality and the power to destroy anything (through moving its weak point and attacking it), Flandre is rarely allowed to leave the Scarlet Devil Mansion to keep her under control. While she usually obliges to this out of respect for her older sister Remilia, she has expressed interest in going outside, even if she doesn't understand it much.
While Flandre excels in speed like her sister does, being younger by five years and often confined to the mansion makes her both lighter and slower than Remilia.

Speed: 7
Weight: 3
Speed-Lightweight

Uses female Voice 4 voice clips from Dragon Ball Xenoverse (Tia Ballard).

Narumi Yatadera (Touhou Tenkuushou ~ Hidden Star in Four Seasons)
The Magical Jizo who Manifested in the Forest. Originally just a Jizo statue, the energy of Gensokyo's Forest of Magic brought her to life as a magician youkai. While she's been a friend of Marisa's for a while, she didn't actually show herself until an incident gave her a surge of seasonal energy powerful enough to radiate throughout Gensokyo.
Narumi may have come to life with flesh and bone, but her past as a stone statue lives on through her relatively high Weight stat. Being a stay-at-home person doesn't help her Speed either, though it does mean she's got a Drift Spark Rate perfect for testing out on the competition.

Speed: 2
Weight: 7
Acceleration-Heavyweight

Uses Female Voice 2 voice clips from Soulcalibur IV (Michelle Ruff).

Characters from neither the (main) Classic Mega Man series nor the Touhou Project. Residents of the Mushroom Kingdom, masters of stacking puzzle games, abstract arcade obstacles, you name it.

Schezo Wegey (Madou Monogatari II, Puyo Puyo)
The Dark Wizard. He learned the power of dark magic when he was only fourteen years old, and is incredibly skilled at using it in combat. He's also terrible with word choice, often phrasing his sentences like he wants something much...creepier than what he actually wants.
His girth can overpower Arle, and his Speed swings both ways...and by that I mean his Weight is 4 points higher than Arle and his Speed and Acceleration are equal.

Speed: 5
Weight: 7
Balanced-Heavyweight

Voice is from Puyo Puyo Tetris (Ben Lepley).

R.O.B. the Robot (Gyromite, Stack-Up)
Robotic Operating Buddy, model HVC-012. Originally just a robot assistant to his creator, Professer Hector, R.O.B.'s short-lived influence has given him a varied career at Nintendo, from an explorer of Dream Land, to a cargo loader in F-Zero races, to even the leader of a whole race of R.O.B.s.
ROB also had a brief racing career in the past, and he comes with tricks both old and new for his return to the race. His Weight is still second only to the Koopa King, but he's lost some Speed so his Acceleration doesn't suffer as much, improving his drifting power in the process.

Speed: 7
Weight: 8
Speed-Heavyweight

"Voice" is from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, with additional SFX and music from Stack-Up.

Donkey Kong Jr. (Donkey Kong Jr.)
The son of the original Donkey Kong (now known as Cranky Kong), and the father of the current Donkey Kong (Though older records say he's a younger Donkey Kong). After saving his father from Mario's imprisonment, Donkey Kong Jr. went on to participate in a kart race and two tennis tournaments, then disappeared without a trace.
Donkey Kong Jr. may not have been on the race track since 1992, but he's still got his old skills with him. His great ape strength gives him high Weight, though not high enough to hurt his Handling too much. He also has fantastic Speed, albeit at the cost of a low Acceleration stat that makes it hard to climb back up the ranks like he climbs up vines.

Speed: 8
Weight: 7
Speed-Heavyweight

Uses lower-pitched Baby Donkey Kong voice clips from Mario Super Sluggers (Takashi Nagasako).

Evil Otto (Berzerk)
A giant bouncing smiley face, found in a mysterious labyrinth with killer robots. He hides initially, emerging to try and catch intruders if they spend enough time in a room.
With minimal Acceleration and maximum Speed, Evil Otto takes a while to get going, but can become an absolute speed demon. Unfortunately, he isn't as durable on the race track as he is in the labyrinths of Berzerk, meaning it's easy for him to bounce around even when he doesn't want to.

Speed: 9
Weight: 1
Speed-Lightweight

Voice is from Berzerk (computer-generated).

Koopa Paratroopa (Super Mario Bros.)
A Koopa Troopa with a pair of fragile wings. A Paratroopa'a flight capabilities are usually dependent on its shell; green-shelled Troopas can only use their wings to leap, while red-shelled Troopas can fly.
Even when driving in a standard kart, Paratroopa's driving skills match those of his signature Para-Wing vehicle. This means that while he's low on Weight and abysmal with Speed, he has Acceleration and Handling perfect for flying through all sorts of obstacles.

Speed: 1
Weight: 3
Acceleration-Lightweight

Voice is from Mario Kart: Double Dash.

Muncher (Super Mario Bros. 3)
A sub-species of Piranha Plant. Munchers are notorious for their durability, requiring something as strong as a POW Block to be defeated. This powerful, block-like durability makes them immensely popular to use in unofficial construction projects in Dinosaur Land, very much to the dismay of tourists.
While Muncher isn't especially heavy behind the wheel, its Weight still clocks in at a respectable 7. Its inexperience with horizontal movement doesn't do its Speed any favors, but it does help with its Acceleration.

Speed: 1
Weight: 7
Acceleration-Heavyweight

Uses sound effects from Super Mario World.

Small kart spries by Notakin. Used with permission.

Dyna Man (Mega Man (DOS))
Serial number unknown. One of three robots working under the supercomputer CRORQ, Dyna Man was assigned with holding one of the keys to Dr. Wily's fortress.
Looking slightly less...strange than he did back during CRORQ's conquest that probably didn't happen, Dyna Man finally gets the chance to do more than just jump and drop bombs. He's got semi-decent Speed and Acceleration, plus a high weight stat perfect for showing off his dyna-might.

Speed: 4
Weight: 8
Balanced-Heavyweight

Uses Ex's alternate voice clips from Puyo Puyo Tetris (Matthew Mercer).

An "nr" version of the pack without the Robot Masters (aside from Dyna Man) is included as well, to prevent overlap with the MegaMan Pack.

V1 (3/25/19)
-Initial release. Includes Block Man, Cut Man, and Top Man.

V2 (3/28/19)
-Added Dust Man, Kogasa, Wriggle, and Koishi.
-Edited Top Man's hands at front-facing 45-degree angles (his fingers now wrap around the wheel).
-Remade Cut Man's ranking and Wanted icons.
-Edited Block Man, Cut Man, and Top Man's turning frames (their heads tilt instead of rotating now).

V3 (4/10/19)
-Added Heat Man, Napalm Man, Schezo, and R.O.B.
-Updated Block Man's voice clips (Now use a cleaner rip).
-Changed Block Man's second hurt voice clip (Is now "How mortarfying!").
-Changed Block Man's losing voice clip (Is now "No, no, no!").
-Changed Cut Man's losing voice clip (Is now "Bummer!").
-Fixed outline shading on Top Man's Wanted icon.
-Remade Top Man's ranking icon.
-Edited Cut Man's ranking icon (His eyes are a little bigger now).
-Recolored Wriggle's mouth (It should blend in less with her face now).
-Fixed eyes on Wriggle's Wanted icon (A few pixels were missing at the top of her irises).
-Credits have been removed (This change was undocumented until V4, and is an oversight).

V4 (4/22/19)
-Added Frost Man, Donkey Kong Jr., Marisa, Remilia, Plant Man, and Evil Otto.
-Edited drift sprites on all characters except R.O.B. (Their eyes now move).
-All characters who drive with a normal seat (all but Block Man and R.O.B.) now fit inside the seat.
-Tweaked the shape and color of Block Man's arms and legs.
-Fixed Cut Man's head tilting the wrong direction while turning.
-Tweaked Kogasa, Wriggle, and Koishi (Their legs now bend).
-Fixed various errors on Kogasa (the top of her umbrella half is now the same color of black on all frames, and the top part is now properly centered on her signpost).
-Made Koishi's boots longer.
-Changed Koishi's minimap icon (Is now her head instead of her Third Eye).
-Gave Heat Man a proper turning frame (His head is not visible even if it rotates, so he lowers his lid).
-Fixed Heat Man's minimap icon (It faces left now).
-Edited Schezo's minimap icon (The dark line on his forehead has been removed).
-Edited R.O.B.'s minimap icon (Is now slightly smaller).
-Credits have been added once again, and now include the characters' source work and specific voice actor. The exceptions either use sound effects in place of voices (R.O.B.) or have unknown voice actors (Marisa).

V5 (6/15/19)
-Added Sheep Man, Paratroopa, Muncher, Flandre, Narumi, and Dyna Man.
-Dust Man's voice clips have been redone with different voice effects. This should make him easier to understand.
-Changed Dust Man's second boost voice clip (Is now a different yell).
-Made several tweaks to character shading and coloring. On top of general increase in shading detail and anti-aliasing, the following character-specific changes have been made:
--Top Man is now a darker color. This means that his default color has changed from "Pumpkin" to "Orange".
--The shading and color scheme of Kogasa, Wriggle, and Koishi's skin better matches other human or human-bodied racers.
--Kogasa's default color has been changed from "Teal" to "Cyan", for reasons similar to Top Man.
--Koishi, Marisa, and Remilia now have darker shading on the hair underneath their hats.
--Napalm Man has received the biggest shading changes. Special thanks to Kíbito for providing the edited front frame, which was used as basis for the rest of the shading.
--The outline of Donkey Kong Jr.'s "J" now changes color. The outline around his body is also more consistently colored (one shade originally alternated between two slightly different colors).
--A shading error present on one of Marisa's hands in certain frames has been fixed.
-Cut Man's arms now match the shape of Heat Man's arms.
-Made Cut Man's head and facial features larger at several angles.
-Edited Top Man's face on 3/4 angle frames to look less "squished".
-Tweaked hands and arms of the Touhou characters.
-Moved the eyes of the Touhou characters closer together on front-facing frames.
-Changed Kogasa's Attack 1, Attack 2, Hurt 2, and Slow voice clips (all of these voice clips were originally shared with Dimpsuu's R.I.P.).
-Made Wriggle's head rounder on certain frames.
-Tweaked Wriggle's eyes (Their shape has been adjusted on the signpost and Wanted icon, and an unneeded pixel on the iris has been removed from the Wanted icon).
-Slightly adjusted Wriggle's chin on her signpost.
-Fixed several minor graphical oddities related to Koishi's Third Eye, her Third Eye's "retina", and her hat's ribbon.
-Tweaked Napalm Man's back-side frames (his jets have been moved, and the shape of one of his shoulders has been changed).
-Fixed the seat being missing on Donkey Kong Jr.'s Q5 frame.
-Slightly tweaked the shape of Donkey Kong Jr.'s left eye on his signpost.
-Changed Marisa's signpost hand (is now a thumbs up instead of a clenched fist).
-Remilia is now asymmetrical (this means her ribbon no longer flips directions).
-Moved credits file from the .pk3 to the .zip.
-Added alternative version of the pack to the download (v5nr).

The turning sprites are a bit lazy, you usually tilt the head in the direction they turned.
Apart from that this is fine.

Also Topman's head is a bit too squished.

The pack has been updated to 2.0! On top of some touch-ups to the initial three characters, four more have been added: Dust Man, Kogasa, Wriggle, and Koishi!

I've updated the pack to 3.0. It includes several smaller tweaks to the existing characters (most notably Block Man's voice clips now coming from a cleaner rip, reducing his file size), and also comes with the addition of four characters: Heat Man, Napalm Man, Schezo, and R.O.B.

It has come to my knowledge that the original file name, BrashBusterCharacterPack, was too long. Because of this, I have shortened the name of the zip file and pk3 file to BBusterCPack.

Heatman doesn't seem to have a turning frame, and his minimap is reversed.
Schezo's highlights could be better, his minimap is a little messy (what is that dark line below his eye?).
R.O.B.'s minimap seems a little big, maybe not too much so if it's still 12x12 but it doesn't seem so.

The pack has been updated once again to 4.0. This update adds a whopping six characters to the pack: Frost Man, Donkey Kong Jr., Marisa, Remilia, Plant Man, and Evil Otto. It also includes several tweaks to earlier characters (such as everyone except Block Man and R.O.B. now fitting in the seat normally), and brings back the credits file I forgot to include in 3.0, now with each characters' game/other media of origin plus their actual voice actor.

All the characters look great shape wise, especially the Robot Masters, though at the same time all of them are lacking in terms of shade, aside from that, this is one hell of a pack.

The pack has been updated to 5.0. This update adds another six characters (Sheep Man, Paratroopa, Muncher, Flandre, Narumi, and Dyna Man), and also gives much more detailed shading to the pack's existing characters.
I've also added a "v5nr" .pk3 to the download, which is the same as the regular file save for the exclusion of all Robot Masters (aside from Dyna Man). This should make it easier to run these characters alongside Dimpsuu's MegaMan Classic Kart Pack.
