Unless SMS.wad also changes the drill time, enemies' properties, or makes attracted items come to you faster, then it doesn't matter if you use it or not. NiGHTS mode uses the same speed and drill meter as anybody else playing it legally.

I got higher than 102 once...but it was on my own NiGHTS level, Skyline Paradise Zone, which is basically a linkfest at the beginning of the mare.

I play NiGHTS mode...a lot XD

And I'm a bit of a constant spin dasher. I use the speed while I'm paralooping to get more Links.
