What's Your Keyboard Layout?

WASD Foreward backward and strafeing
Shift - Custom 1
Ctrl - Cutom 2
Spacebar - Custom 3

jump - mouse 1
spindash - mouse 2

vcb - the various ring tosses and flag toss,

hardly ever touch match, only have the keys mapped for the occasional character wad that uses them.

Aiming Binds: (Credit to DUDE for showing me this a while back)
bind c "crosshair cross; mousesens 38; mlooksens 20"
bind v "crosshair angle; mousesens 25; mlooksens 10"
bind b "crosshair point; mousesens 19; mlooksens 9"
mlooksens was renamed to mouseysens when it was added back to 2.1.whatever.

(WASD is stupid the arrow keys exist for a reason you know)

Wanted to get this back up to date. This is extremely long, so I'm pastebin-ing these.

If you're seriously comparing SRB2 with arrow keys to Bubsy 3D, you're an idiot.
UoYtQlE.gif

SRB2 doesn't have tank controls, turning with arrows is fast and doesn't interrupt gameplay at all.

Here's how I play usually with my control scheme.

And for comparison, heres how I play with WASD+mouse for turning. By the way, LCtrl for spinning?! That's really stupid and when I was testing WASD+mouse I could barely even reach the key, but I can reach Z and the strafe keys just fine on my setup.

How small must one's hand be to not be able to reach LCtrl from WASD? Unless that was a typo and you meant RCtrl.

In retrospective, my point was pretty unclear. It wasn't that you should not play with that control scheme, but rather isn't it hypocritical to hate Bubsy 3D for it's controls, and then prefer to play another game the exact same way?

Also, turn down your mouse sensitivity or get your arm under control; watching that is imagining that a chimpanzee took your mouse and started flinging it around. You don't need those insanely spastic movements.

Movement/Strafe: WASD
Camera control: Mouse
Jump: Space
Spindash: Lshift
Custom 1: LControl
Custom 2: Lalt
Cuatom 3: Ralt
Throw ring: Right click
Change weapons: Mousewheel

I forget how to throw flag since I never use the command.

Forward/Backward/Strafe: WASD
Camera: Mouse
Jump: Right Click
Spin: Mouse Wheel
Throw Ring: Left Click
Switch Weapon: Q
Toss Flag: E

Forward - Keypad 8
Reverse - Keypad 5
Turn Left/Right - Keypad 4/6
Jump - Z
Spin - X
Strafe Left/Right - A/D
Custom Action 1/2/3 - Q/W/E

Multiplayer controls irrelevant since I wholly play SP, and mouse irrelevant since I cannot care for camera control.

Currently my keyboard layout is the default layout which happens to be the following.

Turn Left: Left arrow.
Turn Right: Right arrow.
Move Forward: Up arrow or W.
Move Backward: Down arrow or S.
Strafe Left: A.
Strafe Right: D.
Jump: Z.
Spindash: X.

Is there a better keyboard layout? I am used to WADS keys but will it work for this game here?

When blood and sweat is the real cost; thinking ceases, the truth is lost

WASD plus mouse for me. I think I had jump on right click, shoot on left click, and spin on one of the side buttons. Mousewheel was switch weapon, of course.

Chasecam ON:
Movement: WASD + Up & Down arrows (Yea I use both up and w, as well as S and down...)
Cam: Left + Right arrow keys
Throw ring: CTRL

Chasecam OFF:
Movement: WASD
Cam: Mouse
Throw ring: Mouse1

Everything else:
Jump: Space
Spin: Z
Custom 1, 2 and 3: x, c, v

My control scheme is messed up and I don't recommend it. .w.

EDIT:

By the way, LCtrl for spinning?! That's really stupid and when I was testing WASD+mouse I could barely even reach the key, but I can reach Z and the strafe keys just fine on my setup.
That's.... kinda incorrect and harsh to say it's stupid, I can comfortably reach my LCTRL key with the hand I use on WASD.

I wish there could be a default layout...

But shouldn't your own layout naturally be better than a premade one? Creating your own layout is what happens when even a single key on something preset doesn't feel quite right/comfortable for your own judgment.

Never mind that there IS a default layout; it's the settings the game had before you changed them =P

Up Arrow - Forward
Left Arrow - Strafe Left
Down Arrow - Backward
Right Arrow - Strafe Right
Space Bar : Jump
L-Ctrl : Spin

Player2:
Up Arrow - num8
Left Arrow - num4
Down Arrow - num2
Right Arrow - num6
Space Bar - J
L-Ctrl - K

Since I'm using a gaming keyboard

and a browsing mouse
81tN1%2BVIB1L._SL1500_.jpg
I do have a little bit of a special button setup. It's not my final setup (yet) because I'm still experimenting with the functions of this thing. Also this keyboard is pretty new for me (I got it gifted a few days ago) so I still need to get used to it.

But here is my current setup:
Since SRB2 does not detect my additional buttons properly I had to map a few functions on unused keyboard buttons and map those buttons on the correct sponding mouse buttons.
Forward, Reverse, Strafe Left, Strafe Right: WASD (obviously)
Turn Left, Turn Right: Unused (Mouse axis X)
Jump: Right Click
Spin: Left Shift
Talk: Space
Team-Talk: T
Rankings/Scores: Tabulator
Toss Flag: Previous Page Button [Mouse] (actually "\")
Next Weapon: Wheel Down
Previous Weapon: Wheel Up
Weapon Slot 1-7: 1-7
Ring Toss: Left Click
Ring Toss Normal: Next Page Button [Mouse] (actually "'")
Look Up, Look Down: Unused (Mouse axis Y)
Rotate Camera Left: Wheel Left (actually "[")
Rotate Camera Right: Wheel Right (actually "]")
(note: I don't use Rotate Camera but I sometimes use it when messing around with objectplace. Maybe I can figure out a better use for them)
Center View: Programm Change Button (Mouse, the engraving for the thumb is actually pushable) (actually ";")
Mouselook: Wheel Button
Reset Camera: R
Toggle Chasecam: V
Custom Action 1: Z
Custom Action 2: X
Custom Action 3: C
(note: I might place the Custom Actions on the Next Page, Previous Page and Program Switch button of my mouse in a secondary setup)
Pause: Pause/Break
Console: Tilde
I barely even use Tails but I have a setup just in case I need it. If I want to play multiplayer localy I just let my friend use another PC or play another game. We have 4 PC's here.
Forward: Keypad 8
Reverse: Keypad 2
Turn Left: Keypad 7
Turn Right: Keypad 9
Jump: Keypad 5
Spin: Keypad 0
Strafe Left: Keypad 4
Strafe Right: Keypad 6
Those G-Keys are only Console shortcuts and are not being used in the game itself. They just quickly open the console execute a comand and close it again or just pretype a comand. Also I might change them or make additional setups for different gametypes/purposes.
General Player Setup bindings
G1: Change skin to Sonic
G2: Change color to blue
G3: Change skin to Tails
G4: Change color to orange
G5: Change skin to Knuckles
G6: Change color to red
Additional Player Setup bindings
G1: Suicide (just in case)
G2: Opens console and pretypes "changeteam "
G3: Opens console and pretypes "skin "
G4: Opens console and pretypes "color "
G5: Opens console and pretypes "name "
G6: Unused (yet)
Servercomands
G1: Opens console and pretypes "map map"
G2: Opens console and pretypes "gametype "
G3: Checks ping
G4: Opens console and pretypes "serverchangeteam "
G5: Opens console and pretypes "kick "
G6: Opens console and pretypes "ban "
No Quickmacros (yet)

Player 1 Controls
USB Keyboard 1. Mouse 1
Jump - Space
Spin - F
Strafe Left - A
Strafe Right - D
Forward - W
Backpedal - S
Shoot - Right click
Toss flag - E
Shoot basic - Left click
Next Weapon - Scroll Down
Previous Weapon - Scroll Up

I use this set up in Doom II too! Toss flag becomes use, in this case, and Left Shift becomes crouch. Not much else to say. Then there's Kitoko. He also has to spend time as Player 1 sometimes. I cannot understand how he plays like this:

Player 2 Controls
USB Keyboard 1. Mouse 1.
Jump - F
Spin - A
Strafe Left - S
Strafe Right - D
Forward - Left Click
Backward - Toggle Mouselook + Mouse Backwards
Toggle Mouselook - Space
Shoot - Right click
Toss Flag - G
Shoot basic - E
Next Weapon - Scroll Up
Previous Weapon - Scroll Down

We have to keep swapping our controls using .cfg files, because we both have no clue how to set up two mice and two keyboards. Anyone that tells us how becomes a savior. Me (and him) both look like an idiot under the wrong controls. The difference in weapon change highlights it. However, he's slowly moving to my setup, he likes it a lot.

My controls are actually almost identical. Instead of toss flag being E, its period (since I rarely toss the flag) and I don't have a ring toss normal button, since I generally only use rails bombs and scatters.

But, what are your custom action buttons?
