I doubt it, or if that was ever possible, I guess it's worth noting that MD2s affect performance in OpenGL, and considering software itself is pretty much limited to the CPU only, it would be unplayable with the CPU... literally shitting on itself on large maps, I suppose.

No Lat, you're 100% right.

I haven't been able to benchmark this (mostly because I haven't been trying, since it's completely unoptimised - it triples the number of FixedMul calls for a single vissprite!)

Anyways, you're barking up the wrong tree, even if it were feasible. I don't like MD2s - they always feel lifeless compared to what a good spriter can do.
 
The major upside to it would be that anyone could create a model, making characters become more easily made, though I wonder if you can take an MD2 and convert it to sprites... Wad characters could be so much easily created...
