Funnily enough there are already seriously challenging (not to mention forced) routes that nobody seems to know about for Knuckles, found in Neo Aerial Garden Zone as well as Azure Temple Zone. And it's not simply noclimb wall spam don't be fooled.
That one tunnel in Azure Temple is also horridly frustrating for Tails even, considering it was made for him in particular. But then that's not even part of the main level itself, just a secret. =S
